For 39ers, with Rejection Comes Hope!
Happy UN-Birthday APRIL 39ers! ♪ And many more… ♪ So
this article was posted on April 1st … where were you?! … April
Fool! … As usual, I was a few days late and a lot of dollars short, trying
to make my tardiness funny. Hmmm, brings to mind a quote by Mark Twain, “April 1 is
the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year.” I’m proof of
that! LOL
I’m
not rejecting you, but it’s true, after turning 40+ we deal with rejection in a
different way. Hopefully, we’re more hopeful than dejected. With that in mind, I
have a full roster of 39er theories and thoughts to help you UN-wrap
another UN-Birthday in this month of flowering showers and Spring fling fun. No
rejection allowed!

March update: Spirits are high in my senior community, coming off our first 39
And Holding DAY (March 22nd) event last month. It
brought together a small group of like-minded people to mingle and get
acquainted with positive 39er philosophies. We discussed our desires to
leave memoirs and Living Legacies for posterity, and simply enjoyed learning
our mutual interests. It was so much fun, we decided to hold quarterly events
and already looking forward to 39AHD ‘26. Hope you give this some
thought in your area, too!
Now,
let’s see what’s happening this month as we Age With ATT-i-tude …
֎ Celebrating APRIL 39ers ~ And More!
Grab your Inner Child by the hand and let’s tiptoe between the raindrops, or as
Tiny Tim would say, … through the tulips with me … and fly a kite
(National Kite Month), plant an indoor garden (for Tulip Month), or sing like
nobody’s listening for National Karaoke Week (20th-26th).
But first …
For
39ers who Follow the Stars
Okay … everyone stand up … stop slouching … square your shoulders and stretch
your arms to the sky. A good stretch helps your muscles release the tensions
and your mind relax … which is exactly what April will do for all of us! As
blue skies begin to emerge from the gray of winter, so do our senses awaken to
Spring.
For
Aries (March
21-April 19) it means looking toward a mini-epiphany that rocks to the core of
your sense of self. While that’s great for you, it may mean a shift in your
relationships (personal and business) that may require discussion and
assessment. Use the 27ths’ New Moon to submit a potentially exciting
business concept to the powers that be. They see your genius.
Taurus, Taurus,
Taurus … what are we going to do with you? (April 20-May 20) You’ve been
hesitating too long. You knew last month that you should iron out a few
wrinkles in a friendship, but did you? Or is it time now to reexamine
your fondness and make a firm decision? Once decided, it will be a breath of
fresh air in Spring. Some lingering pressures from office to home will have you
a bit on edge; however, mind-distracting projects will help until it passes.
And it will, by month’s end, so you can sweep into May with a clear head.
And for those who love the adventurous
Aries ram and headstrong bulls of Taurus, give them the calming
influence of gifts that bring them pleasure. It would be surprising to meet an Aries
who doesn’t love a vibrant red, tempered with a quiet splash of off-white or
ivory. It matches their fiery personality However, the radiance of their diamond
birthstone reflects that fire of passion in multi-faceted brilliance. You
choose.
Taurus friends and family
may want to indulge the earthbound bull, not with the color of dirt, but the
verdant green of growth. It soothes them in the lushness of life. It’s no
surprise that their birthstone is the deep green emerald. Use your imagination
to surround them in green’s ability to provide calm and serenity to Taurus’s
natural tenacious tenseness.

1975 Vintage Song of Note ♪
There’s no denying that music reflects our moods, personalities and life
experiences … and that’s just for the listeners. Those who write the music are
baring their souls. Such is the case in “Don’t Call Us, We’ll Call
You,” this month’s Vintage Song of Note.
It’s ironic that Sugarloaf’s
experiences breaking into the music biz became one of their two Top Ten hits
(#4 at WCFL/Chicago, April 19,
1975), but not until they released it from their fourth and final album. Lyrics
were penned by their lead singer, Jerry Corbetta, but surely they were
heartfelt by all members, as they traversed the tangled trail of success, with
dejection, before charting their own course—and making it big. ♪ … Anyway, we cut a hit and toured a bit | With the

֎ More April Fun for Everyone
Wake
up your Inner Child, 39ers, it’s time to go play in the dirt! Though
there is no official link for Tulip Month, I love the idea of growing an
indoor garden for them. And what kid doesn’t love to play in the dirt … admittedly,
you need to start your tulip bulbs in the dead of winter, so make a calendar
note for early December. You’ll love that next Spring you’ll have beautiful,
colorful tulips!
Whoosh!
The winds of April are perfect for National
Kite Month! Take a peek at the host sponsor’s breezy, fanatic
site—your Inner Child will love it!
Tuesday
~ April 8th: What are you doing today? Have you been staring out the
window watching the birds (rather than working)? It’s Draw A Bird Day! So do it! The sponsor link is not current,
but their archived story and bird drawings are priceless, from primitive to
excessively artistic … worth the read and review.
Thursday ~ April 10th:
National
Poetry Month comes with the added bonus of Poem In Your
Pocket Day! Feeling creative and inspired? Write even a tiny four-line
pocket-poem or a full-blown sonnet, and give it to someone special. Trust me,
you’ll have “a moment.”
Friday ~ April 11th: I am
unashamedly copying my BFYP site for this fun
date—enjoy! What do you listen to your music on today? Your phone? Your
computer? Some other fancy gizmo from the 21st century? Welllll,
today is 8-track Tape
Day!
I heard that … “Huh?! What’s that?” Oh, you are so
spoiled. An 8-track tape player was a clunky portable radio-type music player,
sometimes combined with our radios that then became our traveling
music-maker. The “tapes” were about as clunky as the player. Nevermind, ask
your grandparents while I go dig my tapes and player out of storage … Rock On!
Friday ~ April 11th: Sooooo,
what did we play on our ol’ tape players? Get your party hat on, today we’re
celebrating International
"Louie Louie" Day, on whatever we can find to play the iconic 1963 party tune! There
hasn’t been an official sponsoring link for several years, but no worries—our
link above tells the story of BFYP DJ, Ken Chase of KISN/Portland
fame, producer of the most popular version by The Kingsmen. Enjoy … reminisce …
and party on!
Sunday ~ April 12th-13th: Are you
ready for some Full Moon Magic? Not only will April’s Full Pink Moon bring us a
tad more stability in our lives, it predicts Easter’s date, and this
month, rather than a supermoon, we have a micromoon—it appears tiny, being
at its farthest from Earth. Whew! That’s a lot of work for the night sky.
Of course, the Full Pink Moon
isn’t really pink, but its name is a little creepy … it was
dubbed so, for the early blooms of an eastern North American wildflower, the creeping phlox, which brings
a perky, five-petal flower in an array of colors to your Spring garden. From
rose, mauve, and pink, to white, blue and purple, enjoy the color splash! And
rumor has it, its scent can be reminiscent of marijuana …
Sunday
~ April 20th: Go! Go find your eggs—but don’t put them all in one basket
… it’s Easter!
Whether you celebrate Easter religiously or as a simple family gathering, kids
know it is a day of wiles and smiles … and chocolate. At the end of the day, ya
gotta have that yummy brown bunny, no matter how old your Inner Child is. 😊
April 20th-26th: Yup, can’t
say it any better than I did at BFYP: Just
because there’s no sponsoring link, doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate National
Karaoke Week! No sponsor link, and more frustrating, no related current
events. However, I did find us an older link that offers great tips for
having karaoke fun. Give it a look-see for “Kamikaze Karaoke” and “Dress-Up
Karaoke.” And btw, “Louie Louie” sounds
great whether you’re warbling into your home karaoke machine or regaling the
local pub with your party tunes prowess … have fun!
Saturday ~ April 26th: Have you
always liked making something special out of something else, even if it was
someone else’s junk? That’s a very basic description of sculpture! Welcome to International Sculpture Day … these
folks want to teach you, encourage you, and enjoy your creativity for seeing
not what is, but what could be, in an interesting, fun, or thoughtful piece of
art.
Once considered only existing in
ancient forms of copper, bronze, granite, marble, and clay … sculpture has come
a long way. Go ahead—now you can create a sculpted work of art out of old toys,
discarded household items and whatever strikes your fancy.
It’s no wonder the International
Sculpture Center evolved from the artistry of the 1960s to a worldwide
celebration and offer “… understanding of sculpture and its unique, vital
contribution to society.” Read their
history
… get inspired and try something new!
Tuesday
~ April 22nd: And, is it time to head outside and have a little chat
with Mother Nature? Today, Earth
Day, is a great time! Talking about the great outdoors and environmental
issues can be contentious for some, but spending a day on a hike, in a
National Park, or just in your own backyard, can offer the opportunity for
quiet contemplation on the matter. Make it happen.
Sunday ~ April 27th: Ah, this
month our New Moon Musings urge you to begin Spring by springing into prospects
that will bolster your pertinent and personal security. As always, it’s time to
consider new beginnings with a fresh start … perfect for stepping into May with
an energetic attitude!

And dear readers, I just want you to know that I try
my best to create an informative, aesthetically creative article for you each
month. However, Blogger is not a professional hosting site—but they’re free
through Google. So we’re stuck with their crummy platform that doesn’t work
well to manipulate images with writing, especially if you aren’t a techie who
knows HTML. Trust me, I’ve tried for years to write articles without gaps
between paragraphs and even between sentences. Sigh. Maybe I’ll win the lottery
and be able to afford a professional hosting site someday.
