39ers Aging with ATTitude July 2025

Jivin’ in July’s Summer Party Fun!

Happy UN-Birthday JULY 39ers! ♪ And many more… ♪ We’re jumpin’ and jivin’ through the Summer heatwaves, thinking thoughts of cool libations and hot fun with friends. Whether you’re 39 and Holding for the first time or the tenth time this Summer, we’re never too old to enjoy it!

֎ Celebrating JULY 39ers ~ And More!

Is your Inner Child making the most of the Summer of 2025? Although there is much to be said for reminiscing over the past and planning for the future, it’s the here and now that counts the most. This is when memories are made!
There are still some images to be posted, but we made it ON the 10th! So, when you’re ready for a break, 39AHC will give you a breather with ways to make more memories, or stretch your mind with tidbits and trivia … but first …

July’s 39er Stars of the Sky

For all of us: Regardless of your birth month, it’s a Summer for that special connection. Whether it’s love in the sun or business in the boardroom, or simply a chat with a new neighbor, you’ll likely enjoy the ride and may even discover a new route. The Full Buck Moon urges us to pull old projects out of our desk drawers or forgotten folders and give ‘em another look-see. Fresh perspectives can yield great results. So …

Cancerian 39ers (06/21-07/22), if you already have love in your life, July 10th’s Full Buck Moon will shine brightly to reveal the spectacular, or the growing cracks. Giving it your attention will help you decide which will bring fulfillment to your Summer. If currently unattached, this Summer might offer a thrilling new connection. By the time July 24th’s New Moon emerges, an innovative business link could open your immediate future to an exciting venture. Enjoy!

Dear Leo Lions (07/23-08/22), are you ready for a smashing Summer? Although a setback or two may have you scratching your head in consternation at first, by mid-month a couple of needed decisions will set things straight. Just be sure you’re making yourself clear, so there are no misconceptions. Both personal and professional relationships could be affected; but the real excitement begins with the New Moon. Is a life-changing opportunity in the mix? You’ll know it when you see it.

Are you looking for special gifts for your Cancer or Leo friend? Cancer may be represented by the Crab for its often reclusive nature, but coax them out of their shell with something that promotes inner peace. Hint: the opalescent Moonstone is their birthstone, and soothing by nature. For those who have a Leo in their lives, remember, they love to laugh! Give them anything that speaks to their passions and charming drama, or offer a fiery Ruby red birthstone to inspire them.

July Vintage Song of Note
It’s mid-Summer and we be jive-talkin’ at the pool! There’s nothing 39ers enjoy more than good talks with good friends around the pool, party room, or local hangout. Although our Song of Note began as an interesting rhythm inspired by the sound of the road, titled “Drive Talking,” it became a great Disco tune in an ode to “
Jive Talkin’”!

How did it come to jivin’ rather than drivin’? The Bee Gees’ daily commute took them down the
Julia Tuttle Causeway from Florida’s Biscayne Bay to their studios in Miami. “Drive Talking” came from the repetitive sound of tires on asphalt that commuters know well … and apparently being lost in thought to the rhythm. Well, I guess that proves inspiration can come from anywhere! But the title didn’t stick, as they began crafting lyrics to make it a dance song.
That worked! “Jive Talkin’” became their anthem for returning to music charts’ Top 10. Thinking they were singing about dancing and communicating, they were only slightly nonplussed to learn that back in the day, “Jive Talkin’” was a Black expression for B.S.
Either way, the lyrics work and you can hear the road’s rhythm in the opening drumbeat Jive talkin’ | You’re telling me lies, yeah | Jive talkin’ | You wear a disguise More tuneful vintage tidbits to manifest your memories and keep the Rock Rockin’ from 50 Years Ago this Month!

֎ More JULY Fun for Everyone

Although the first two celebratory “days” below have come and gone by the time this article posted (so sorry!), I think they’re still worth including and giving some thought to. And away we go …

Let’s swing into Family Golf Month with gusto! There is no sponsor link, so I offer this special mention, not because I play the game, but only to acknowledge there is a golf course that can be seen from my home. I often watch the fanatics strolling around the course, teeing off, in cool rain of Winter or the hot shine of Summer! That’s dedication. If you’re one of ‘em, course specials abound—especially during Family Golf Week—there’s bound to be one in your area. Have fun!

In case you’ve been exploring a cave and didn’t know, it’s Summertime! With that comes National Hot Dog Month and National Picnic Month, neither of which have official sponsors, but who needs ‘em? I found recipes and more to brighten your picnic with yummy hot dogs, to go with friends and family festivities. Add them to a pretty party theme for World Watercolor Month and your Summer fun is complete …

Monday ~ July 7th: From our Big Bro site, Blast from Your Past: Although the National Day of Rock ’n’ ‘Roll is listed on some holiday calendars, there is no definitive link to a supporting site. So let’s just roll with it! It’s described as a day to celebrate the climb of emerging Rock

Radio up the charts as it gained popularity in mid-1950s through 1960s. And we’re all about that! The legends, the culture, the music and the Radio that urged us to dance, people, dance! Now would be a great day to watch Dirty Dancing (again).
And yes, there is an International Day of Rock ‘n’ Roll on July 13th, but is apparently only supported in Brazil and Ireland. Really? Never would’ve thunk it …

Monday ~ July 7th: It’s also Tell The Truth Day! Somebody thought it was important once-upon-a-time … but since the sponsor link has disappeared, apparently it is no longer considered relevant. Huh. I say, bring it back! And the link above gives you reasons why you should. I dare you … go one whole day without telling even a little white lie … especially tough on a Monday!

Thursday ~ July 10th: It’s time to gather your thoughts, 39ers, and look up! Today begins the Full Buck Moon cycle (3 days), bringing with it energizing perspectives that only come with age … as with July full moon’s namesake. This is the time that male deer (bucks) have reached maturity and shed their antlers. Even more impressive, it’s their annual rite, each year creating larger and grander sets as the years progress. Similarly, the Tlingit call it the Full Salmon Moon, signifying the fish’s return to streams and ready for harvest.

Wednesday ~ July 16th: You had to know there would be a National Hot Dog Day! It’s today! And if you follow the sponsor’s link, you can learn how hot dogs are really made, not the horror stories we’ve heard since we were kids. Do you know there is a Wiki event page and bona fide National Hot Dog and Sausage Council in the US? And this link is for tips on hot dog eating etiquette, like “Don't... Use ketchup on your hot dog after the age of 18.” I kid you not! Enjoy

July 16th – 19th: Of course, you won’t be able to enjoy National Ventriloquism Week with your mouth full of delish hot dog. However, if you’ve ever wanted to emulate Jeff Dunham, you can attend the National Ventriloquist Convention! A true celebration of your Inner Child awaits …

Thursday ~ July 24th: Today, 39ers, it’s time for you to spend a day on yourself … and your New Moon Musings. The moon phase continues for three days, so meditate, find your inner peace and let it flow through you, as you contemplate what’s going well in your life and what is not. Then consider what can be altered to align with your next month’s desired results. The New Moon is your opportunity to start fresh every month!

Friday ~ July 25th: Today is a great day to let your Inner Child loose at the closest carousel park! It’s Carousel Day or depending on your location, Merry-Go-Round Day. Wiki’s sponsor link is just givin’ us “the facts, ma’am,” with a lot of cool history, but nothing current. Every major city likely has a special carousel, like at The Beach Boardwalk, Santa Cruz, California, and The Liberty Carousel in San Diego’s Belmont Park, which is celebrating their 100-year anniversary this summer. Go ahead … no matter your age … climb on a pretty painted horse. Smile guaranteed.

Wednesday ~ July 30th: And I guess the former sponsors of Paperback Book Day gave up, with the proliferation of eBooks and audio books. Well, we aging 39ers don’t give up so easily. I STILL sell Blast from Your Past paperback books! (Hence, the links 😊) Enjoy the true tales of Rock & Roll Radio DJs in the The Swinging Sixties! (The First Five Years 1954-1959 in eBook only) Thank you Rock & Roll friends.

39ers Aging with ATTitude Platitude MAY 2023

֎ Aging with ATT-i-tude Platitude
There was an old woman who wrote
Words of wisdom and wit in a note
"ATT-i-tude! said the sage
Means more than your age"
Last seen, floating away on her boat …

~ L. Rochelle, May 2022

Some Days, 39ers, I Just Want to Drift Away …

It always takes longer than I expect, hope, and to finally finish my blogs (I maintain two others). And this one, being my “redheaded stepchild” is always last. But 39ers, as much as I’d like to just drift away from it all some days, I plug along until done … I know it’s the tenth of the month, but consider that these snippets of Aging with ATT-i-tude monthly nuggets are free … hope you enjoy them as much as I did in the writing of them 😊.

Brownielocks, my fave calendar website, has a great note about MAY’s origin: “May is named after the Roman goddess Maia, who oversaw the growth of plants. Also from the Latin word maiores, ‘elders,’ who were celebrated during this month.”

Hold on there, we’re not “elders”—we’re 39 and Holding youngsters! No matter how well we nurture our youthful minds, though, we can’t deny the actualization of time. So we may as well celebrate it in Older Americans Month* (see below).

֎ Celebrating MAY 39ers ~ And More!
Childhood dreams rarely last to adulthood. We fall in love early and then learn how much more the world has to offer.  Some dreams, however, remain as fond memories … mine was …

“Can I, huh, can I … puhleeeease?!” That was me as a pre-teen, begging to own a horse. Delightful memories return with Adopt a Horse Month. I sketched horses, read about them, and daydreamed, envisioning an elegant trot through the woods like a beautiful maiden, in a plethora of fairy tales.
So I had to ask my parents. “Sure,” mom and dad said, “as soon as we get a place big enough.” So, you know that didn’t happen. Still, mom and dad did understand my earnest enthusiasm, so they enrolled me in horseback riding lessons. I was in heaven.
My parents didn't promise me the moon (or a horse), but taught me the value of quality compromise. Were you or are you still dreaming of a midnight ride? Here’s where you can “Adopt a Horse.” #AdoptAHorseMonth

As Adults though, when we can’t have what we want, we pout … and eat! Some scarf down chips, others grab the ice cream scoop, but my comfort food is cheese, please. Which brings us to American Cheese Month. Designation originator, American Cheese Education Foundation, says, “Whether you’re a cheese lover, cheesemaker, or anything in between, you can get involved to help us spread the love for American artisan cheese.” From Baby Swiss to Colby Jack, go for it. #AmericanCheeseMonth

*Yep, we can’t avoid it—and why should we? After all, Older Americans Month was created just for US! And a government proclamation proves it. President John F. Kennedy issued the first proclamation recognizing older

Americans, sixty years ago this month. Every month since, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) reminds us and leads the way in opportunities “… to explore diverse aging experiences and discuss how communities can combat stereotypes.” 2023’s theme is Aging Unbound—an apt topic for 39ers!
If you're on the low end
of the 39 and Holding spectrum, don’t worry, you’ll get there. For the rest of us—keep the faith, a good sense of humor, and remember how fortunate you are to have made it to this day. So Happy Birthday MAY 39ers … and many more Cheers to your future! #OlderAmericansMonth

May 5th: Look out world—there’s a full moon on Cinco de Mayo! Talk about a day for Full Moon Magic. The full “Flower Moon,” an Algonquin term, urges April’s showers to work do their hocus pocus and push the flowers up through the earth for our delight!
Not feelin’ the floral love? Perhaps the “Frog Moon” (Cree) or “Moon of Shedding Ponies” (Oglala) is more your style. Or, are you looking for your ol’ sombrero …?

May 5th: It’s party time! Grab me a Corona, please, and when is it my turn on the pinata? Americans choose to celebrate Cinco de Mayo though it’s barely mentioned in Mexico … WHY?? Going through our own Civil War, we felt the pain of Mexico as they battled France for their lives at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War. That day—May 5, 1862, as History.com tells it, “The vastly outnumbered and poorly supplied Mexicans, led by Texas-born General Ignacio Zaragoza,” managed a much-needed victory. It didn’t end their war, so May 5th isn’t a Mexican Independence Day, but it was crucial to their ultimate victory. Since 1863, beginning in California, Cinco de Mayo has been celebrating the Battle of Puebla and the Mexican-American culture.

May 6th: It's Kentucky Derby fever! The running of the roses—well darn, by the time you read this the horses will have run their day with 15-1 winner, Mage, trotting up to receive the blanket of flowers.
Next, let's race up the coast to Baltimore,
Maryland, on May 20th for Preakness, the second jewel in horse racing’s Triple Crown. Talk about Adopt a Horse Month—more like, bet-on-a-horse-month! But wait—there’s more—next month, the Belmont Stakes finish racing’s Triple Crown events June 10th. Giddyup …

May 14th: M’dear 39ers, as commercial as most major holidays are, including this one, it’s pretty tough to miss Mother's Day, whether you need to buy a gift or not. After my boys and respective spouses call or otherwise give me a rosy glow, as the eldest of the moms in my side of the family, I take the rest of the day to reminisce about our family mothers who went before us. Now poignant memories, my mother was fiercely loving, mostly supportive, and a friend to the end. Great, good or less-than-perfect, mothers are the starting point in our lives … it’s up to you what to do with it.

May 19th: Celebrate May’s New Beginnings with New Moon Musings! Whether it’s a day of challenge, a monthly personal update, or taking stock of life going forward for the next year or more, the New Moon boosts your psyche for upcoming changes.

May 19th: Alright, alright, more 19th fun! Dig out the pizza cutter for National Pizza Party Day! ThereIsADayForThat.com claims that the 3rd Friday in May was officially established by Ross Marzolf and Jim’s Famous Gourmet Pizza. Ohhhhhkay. Like we need a reason to party with pizza. Whether you need an excuse or not, get creative, like my 39er son, Scott, and create your own yummy pizza style. (I’ve taste-tested his new culinary creation—oh, YUM.) If you need a brain boost for that, here ya go. If you just want to wear creative clothes for a pizza party, here ya go again. Enjoy!

May 26th: Put your dancin’ shoes on … it’s World Lindy [LinDee] Hop Day! Said to be named in honor of Charles Lindbergh, no one seems to want to claim this day. Since my name is a playful variation of the dance, guess I’ll adopt it! My mother told two stories to answer my query as to why my parents chose to give me a name I continuously need to spell out for everyone I meet. “Linda” was their first choice, but mom claimed an abundance of Lindas were born in the hospital that month and nixed it. Second, she was a dance instructor, so naturally, they thought “Lindy” from the dance, was a catchy alternative. But still, they just couldn’t leave it alone—she had to tweak it with an artistic spelling. It’s been an interesting, usually fun aspect of my life, and a darn sight better than other dances of the era I could have been named, like Samba or Balboa! (No offense meant to anyone with those names). So 39ers, let’s have #FunWithNames—tag me on Twitter with your fun first name!

May 27th: While the Peanuts comic strip has initiated many a trend and fad since its inception in 1950, Snoopy, of all its characters, likely has the most endearing and enduring affects on us. Point in fact, it’s Joe Cool Day! Some of you 39ers will fondly recall when we were treated to a new Snoopy identity on this day in 1971. It wasn’t long after that we teased our friends with, “Who do you think you are, ‘Joe Cool’? Grab your sunshades and be cool.

May 29th: Yes, it’s a somber, but poignant celebration for many 39ers on Memorial Day, 2023. Originally begun to commemorate and honor the lives lost in war(s), it’s also a yearly reminder of what we fight for today

America may be at a distressing low point for the moment, with many inherent freedoms restricted, but it’s still a far sight better than most other parts of the world, and deserves our patriotism—from those born here and from those who seek our “open arms.” And according to the definition from Encyclopedia Britannica, we have “ … the duty to behave justly toward one’s country …” with R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

Especially in a time when we are muzzled in our own language, we need to remember not to strike out at each other—and definitely not with physical violence—remind our politicians that we should all be working together for FREEDOM. Thank you on this day, to those who went before us to keep our rights safe.

May 31st: Last, but certainly not least for us 39ers, it’s National Senior Health & Fitness Day®. Yeah, I know, exercise and healthy eating doesn’t sound like much fun—but we can make it less onerous with like-minded friends. Click below for ideas on this year's theme, #MoveMoreToDoMore ... always on the last Wednesday of May, Mature Market Resource Center® claims the “largest older adult health and wellness event, now celebrating its 30th anniversary.” Get your community of seniors motivated for #SeniorHealthAndFitnessDay

֎ Monthly Song of Note
Is this you?
Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul | I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away It is me—like most writers, I easily lapse into a daydream. Drift Away” (see video with an intro by Wolfman Jack!) slips into your mind and floats it into the music and beyond. In May 1973 Dobie Gray’s tune had steadily drifted up the WCFL/Chicago radio chart to #11. Some songs have great lyrics but maybe they’re about love won—and you are loveless—or love lost—and you’re happily coupled or cheerfully single; or the song is devastatingly depressing about our world around us. They just don’t quite fit your mood. This song, however, simply lets you look for the light through the pouring rain and drift away. Click on more tuneful tidbits to manifest your memories of 1973, and/or just keep the Rock Rockin’ from 50 Years Ago this Month!

֎ For 39ers who Follow the Stars
This month, the Taurus Bull (April 20-May 20) breaks free to take big steps, professionally and personally, while the Gemini Twins (May 21-June 20) come together in body, spirit and soul; and you’ll both benefit from May’s New Moon on the 19th.
Ah, Taurus 39ers, you lucky devils ...
this month it’s anything goes, and it all goes your way as the month drifts into Gemini territory. Right about now you should be bursting with Spring energy and by the last week of May, no matter which path you choose, you’ll break free and it’s all good. Focus on the positive with a solid, grounded step—you’ll be fine.
In the meantime, Gemini, gather your twin wits about you as you enter a new phase of awareness. Constructive changes refresh and enrich your personal psyche to bring lightness where there was dark and laughter where there was sadness. Leave the drama behind, slide into summer, for a more lighthearted season of your life.
Between Spring flowers and Mother's Day, flowers are indeed, the gift of the month. Fortunately, the lovely Lily-of-the-Valley and the Hawthorn share center stage. Lily-of-the-Valley is the month’s star bloom, its bell-shaped petals graciously enhancing any flower arrangement, or stand alone. Meanwhile, the rose-colored Hawthorn, an ancient symbol of hope, comes with an active cultural history. Fittingly, the May gemstone is the garden-green Emerald.
