Is your Inner Child making the most of the Summer of 2025? Although there is much to be said for reminiscing over the past and planning for the future, it’s the here and now that counts the most. This is when memories are made!

The Full Buck Moon urges us to pull old projects out of our desk drawers or forgotten folders and give ‘em another look-see. Fresh perspectives can yield great results. So …

Cancerian 39ers (06/21-07/22), if you already have love in your life, July 10^th’s Full Buck Moon will shine brightly to reveal the spectacular, or the growing cracks. Giving it your attention will help you decide which will bring fulfillment to your Summer. If currently unattached, this Summer might offer a thrilling new connection. Dear Leo Lions (07/23-08/22), are you ready for a smashing Summer? Although a setback or two may have you scratching your head in consternation at first, by mid-month a couple of needed decisions will set things straight. Just be sure you’re making yourself clear, so there are no misconceptions. Both personal and professional relationships could be affected; but the real excitement begins with the New Moon. Is a life-changing opportunity in the mix? You’ll know it when you see it. 

Are you looking for special gifts for your Cancer or Leo friend? Cancer may be represented by the Crab for its often reclusive nature, but coax them out of their shell with something that promotes inner peace. ♪ July Vintage Song of Note ♪  
It’s mid-Summer and we be jive-talkin’ at the pool! There’s nothing 39ers enjoy more than good talks with good friends around the pool, party room, or local hangout. Although our Song of Note began as an interesting rhythm inspired by the sound of the road, titled “Drive Talking,” it became a great Disco tune in an ode to “Jive Talkin’”!

       How did it come to jivin’ rather than drivin’? The Bee Gees’ daily commute took them down the
Julia Tuttle Causeway from Florida’s Biscayne Bay to their studios in Miami. “Drive Talking” came from the repetitive sound of tires on asphalt that commuters know well … and apparently being lost in thought to the rhythm. Well, I guess that proves inspiration can come from anywhere! But the title didn’t stick, as they began crafting lyrics to make it a dance song.
       That worked! “Jive Talkin’” became their anthem for returning to music charts’ Top 10. Thinking they were singing about dancing and communicating, they were only slightly nonplussed to learn that back in the day, “Jive Talkin’” was a Black expression for B.S.
       Either way, the lyrics work and you can hear the road’s rhythm in the opening drumbeat … ♪ … Jive talkin’ | You’re telling me lies, yeah | Jive talkin’ | You wear a disguise … ♪ More tuneful vintage tidbits to manifest your memories and keep the Rock Rockin’ from 50 Years Ago this Month!

Although the first two celebratory “days” below have come and gone by the time this article posted (so sorry!), I think they’re still worth including and giving some thought to. And away we go …

Let’s swing into Family Golf Month with gusto! There is no sponsor link, so I offer this special mention, not because I play the game, but only to acknowledge there is a golf course that can be seen from my home. I often watch the fanatics strolling around the course, teeing off, in cool rain of Winter or the hot shine of Summer! That’s dedication. Monday ~ July 7^th: From our Big Bro site, Blast from Your Past: Although the National Day of Rock ’n’ ‘Roll is listed on some holiday calendars, there is no definitive link to a supporting site. So let’s just roll with it! It’s described as a day to celebrate the climb of emerging Rock

Radio up the charts as it gained popularity in mid-1950s through 1960s. And we’re all about that! The legends, the culture, the music and the Radio that urged us to dance, people, dance! Now would be a great day to watch Dirty Dancing (again).  
       And yes, there is an International Day of Rock ‘n’ Roll on July 13^th, but is apparently only supported in Brazil and Ireland. Really? Never would’ve thunk it … 

Monday ~ July 7^th: It’s also Tell The Truth Day! Somebody thought it was important once-upon-a-time … but since the sponsor link has disappeared, apparently it is no longer considered relevant. Huh. I say, bring it back! And the link above gives you reasons why you should. I dare you … go one whole day without telling even a little white lie … especially tough on a Monday! 

Thursday ~ July 10^th: It’s time to gather your thoughts, 39ers, and look up! Today begins the Full Buck Moon cycle (3 days), bringing with it energizing perspectives that only come with age … as with July full moon’s namesake. This is the time that male deer (bucks) have reached maturity and shed their antlers. Even more impressive, it’s their annual rite, each year creating larger and grander sets as the years progress. Similarly, the Tlingit call it the Full Salmon Moon, signifying the fish’s return to streams and ready for harvest.

Wednesday ~ July 16^th: You had to know there would be a National Hot Dog Day! It’s today! And if you follow the sponsor’s link, you can learn how hot dogs are really made, not the horror stories we’ve heard since we were kids. Do you know there is a Wiki event page and bona fide National Hot Dog and Sausage Council in the US? And this link is for tips on hot dog eating etiquette, like “Don't... Thursday ~ July 24^th: Today, 39ers, it’s time for you to spend a day on yourself … and your New Moon Musings. The moon phase continues for three days, so meditate, find your inner peace and let it flow through you, as you contemplate what’s going well in your life and what is not. Then consider what can be altered to align with your next month’s desired results. The New Moon is your opportunity to start fresh every month! 

Friday ~ July 25^th: Today is a great day to let your Inner Child loose at the closest carousel park! It’s Carousel Day or depending on your location, Merry-Go-Round Day. Wiki’s sponsor link is just givin’ us “the facts, ma’am,” with a lot of cool history, but nothing current. Every major city likely has a special carousel, like at The Beach Boardwalk, Santa Cruz, California, and The Liberty Carousel in San Diego’s Belmont Park, which is celebrating their 100-year anniversary this summer. Go ahead … no matter your age … climb on a pretty painted horse. Smile guaranteed.

Wednesday ~ July 30^th: And I guess the former sponsors of Paperback Book Day gave up, with the proliferation of eBooks and audio books. Well, we aging 39ers don’t give up so easily.  Scintillating Summer Sundowns    

Updated 06/23/24: We’ve languished long enough. 39 and Holding, doesn’t mean holding … and holding … and holding … while nothing gets done!

I can finally move forward in June and look forward to July, savoring every moment. How about you? Having missed most of June, I’m curious to see what’s left to work with for the rest of the month. 

In the essence of time and moving on, below is the final version of June’s 39 and Holding Club article, with shortened and belated comments. Never fear, m’dear 39ers, there is still time enough to revel in days of early summer … 

Although life changes and often nothing from your youth has traversed the changes with you, if you grew up camping, that experience with nature will stay with you always. It’s National Camping Month!

It isn’t as simple anymore, as driving around until you find the perfect place to pitch a tent—now, in the most popular camp areas, reservations are required months in advance. For fantastic tips and camping tricks aimed at campers and RVs, the supporting site is a great place to start!

Whatever your lifestyle, however, you can create your own personal campground even for just a day, in your backyard, a local beach park, or turn your living room into a picnic area. Don’t know where to start? If you have a local Parks & Recreation organization, they can give you loads of ideas, like our San Diego County Parks & Recreation camping programs. They even offer “cabin camping”! Seriously though, there is nothing better for the 39er soul than to spend some time among the wild flora and fauna of life.

No time this summer for outdoor adventures? Then start now and plan your next year’s refreshing wilderness getaway! Just don’t forget your tunes …

If camping isn’t your cuppa nature-tea, head to the beach for International Surf Music Month! Sadly, the sponsor link is not a secure site. So fair warning … if you’d rather not visit the North East Surf Music Alliance, my alternative choices are for sites that provide the history behind the music, like … from our Big Bro site, BlastFromYourPast.net. Quoted: “Ground-breaking Rock guitarist Dick Dale, dubbed the ‘King of the Surf Guitar,’ and legendary band, The Beach Boys (still touring!), are considered pioneers in the early California surf sound.

Each with their own style, Dick Dale (yes, he did surf) excelled in instrumentals, telling surfing stories with his incredible guitar riffs, beginning with ‘Let’s Go Trippin’’ (1960) and a Surf Rock version of ‘Misirlou’ in 1963. ֎ For 39ers who Follow the Stars  

You took off like a shot at the beginning of the month, Gemini 39ers (05/21-06/20). Hopefully, you made the most of your New Moon life-freshener (June 6^th) while you were bursting with energy. Time in the latter half of the month to slow your pace and enjoy the effects of a Summer Solstice-Full Moon combo from the 20^th through June’s end, that will turn your attention to work. 

My dear Cancer 39ers (06/21-07/22), you too, had an early opportunity with the New Moon to put your life in order, righting wrongs and smoothing ruffled feathers. But you are not quite finished. Your mid-month and beyond status calls for a cosmic awareness during the Full Moon, to assuage a personal or professional issue, resolving to everyone’s delight.

֎ Celebrating JUNE 39ers ~ And More! 
Obviously, at this point, I’ll focus on what mattered more, prior to this final version, and what is still to come before we dive into July’s summer waters.   

NOW thru July 7^th: Cancerians can party hearty for the rest of this month and into July at the San Diego County Fair/Del Mar! Their “Let’s Go RETRO” theme reminds us of the fun in all decades, from mellow yellow to the kicks on Route ’66 and Rubik’s cubes! 

Who remembers the colorful push-button Princess phone or the plain ol’ black dial phones? From shag rugs to 45rpm records and the Ford Edsel, you’ll be exclaiming, “I remember that!” How about slicked-back hair or a poufy bouffant? You can poke fun at your summer memories and more!  

As the site says, “With a nod to nostalgia and a focus on fun, the 2024 Fair will give our yesteryears another moment in the San Diego sun.” Couldn’t have said it better m’sefl!  And, if you’re not in San Diego, fear not! Check out Summer Fairs in your town! Rock On …

June 6^th: Celebrate June’s New Beginnings with New Moon Musings.  Fortunately, the New Moon boosts our energy level for the whole month, so take a moment of meditation—even just five minutes works—and relax. With a few deep breaths, you’ll feel your energy level rise and off you go!   

June 15^th: Well, what can I say? International Surfing Day has come and gone, but National Surf Music Month is still here and every day can be Surfing Day! ♪ … Let’s go surfing now | everybody’s learning how … ♪  

June 15^th: World Elder Abuse Awareness Day ~ Of course, if everything was as it should have been for me this month, I’d have been all over this special day. Such is life … so briefly, the supporting link is vital, for sure, as it discusses “elder mistreatment.” However, I have a different take on Elder Abuse. Please click on my link to learn about “Opaque Elder Abuse” that spotlights mistreatment not quite fitting the official definition of abuse.

June 16^th: Although Hallmark greeting cards wouldn’t let us forget it’s Father's Day, our friends at the Brownielocks calendar site remind us with tongue-in-cheek and a lotta fun. 

June 20^th: Look up! It was American Eagle Day. Yes, there’s a day for that—and it isn’t simply about the majestic bald eagle, but the site’s reminder, “June 20th commemorates the anniversary of the bald eagle’s selection as our national symbol on the Great Seal in 1782.” 

June 20^th & June 21^st: The Universe gave us a two-day double-whammy! We began with June 20^th’s annual Summer Solstice, then combined it with June 21^st’s Full Strawberry Moon, leading up to a dynamic weekend! Is it any coincidence that Mother Nature upped our daily temps to match? FYI: it’s the earliest solstice in 228 years according to USA Today and Yahoo/News, and will continue to creep up every year until we hit 2100 … AND, have you heard the news about the rare white buffalo born in Yellowstone National Park this month? Farmer’s Almanac has proclaimed June the Full White Buffalo Moon. Talk about Full Moon Magic … 😊 

June 27^th: Although summer is rarely serious, National Sunglasses Day is a solemn subject when it comes to preserving your eyesight for life. As the supporting site tells us, “In the spirit of warmer weather, more outdoor time, and the world’s best athletes descending on Paris, The Vision Council is excited to celebrate National Sunglasses Day by spotlighting sports sunglasses and eyewear that provide protection and enhance performance.” Cool. But, I’m sorry … I just can’t be tooooo serious with the lyrics of “Cheap Sunglasses” running through my brain!    ♪ … hit that street a-runnin’ and try to meet the masses | and go get yourself some cheap sunglasses … ♪ (ZZ Top 1979!) 

June 30^th: THIS is perfect to end a convoluted month, with a sense of humor. According to Mashable, this is Social Media Day and it begins with the age-old question, “If you didn’t post it on social media, did it even happen?” I have no words … you’re on your own.

From now through summer’s end, sundowns will have special meaning … either relief from the heat or heating up your summer nights. There’s a song for that. “Sundown” by Gordon Lightfoot hit #1 on KTLK/Denver’s June 22, 1974 “Double K 1280” survey.
