39ers Aging with ATTitude Platitude JULY 2022

Where is the Love? In the Summer Moon ...

As a July 39er, has your birthday always had a little extra flash and fireworks to it? Lunar Cancerians may often retreat into their crab shells, but they’re especially flashy when they do venture out to bask in the summer sun. Leos on the other hand, leap gracefully over the sun and into a splash of fireworks every chance they get! Ah, but there is nothing like a super-sized summer moon ...

֎ Celebrating JULY 39ers ~ And More!
The rest of us 39ers wait patiently (or not) for our own hoppin’ day in the sun, making sure our Cancer and Leo friends have a great month! And this is how we do it ...

Sadly, we lost many small businesses over the most devastating years of the pandemic. However, the world is still turning and it’s churning out even more entrepreneurial enterprises. So let’s give a hand to Independent Retailer Month!

The website encourages consumers to shop local and celebrate the tenacity of those still in the marketplace, and applauds those who are embarking on their first solo venture. Shop ‘til you drop!

I’ve been known to say, Color your world the way you want to see it. This month, I mean it literally! It’s also World Watercolor Month. Often an overlooked art medium, artistic naturalists may want to move away from oil-based paints and make watercolor a happy alternative. The site gives you tips to get started, but artists in all levels (and ages) of watercolor expertise are encouraged to post and share their art, and meet other watercolor artists from around the world. What color is your world this month?

July 13th: Let’s go for some Full Moon Magic! While it is the biggest super moon of the year, the Buck Moon is named for antlers of male deer (bucks) in full-growth mode. Each year, their antlers become larger and more imposing as they age. There are often many names for each full moon, depending on the source. Several are referenced from Native American names that include other allusions to life—i.e., Salmon Moon (Tlingit); weather—Thunder Moon (monsoon season); and various plants—like Raspberry Moon (Algonquin, Ojibwe).

Fun fact: Some of us 39ers recall a magical night fifty-three years ago, when Neil Armstrong became the first person to step foot on the Moon (July 20, 1969), and marked the spot with the U.S. flag
What makes this month’s full moon so big and bright? It rises a little lower in the sky than last month’s, which can give it that breathtaking size when it first comes into view.
And do you like to fish? Apparently the mighty moon attracts fish, too. Based on the positions of the moon, best days for fishing this month are July 1st-13th and 28th-31st. Whether you catch-and-release or plan on a fish dinner, have fun!

July 17th: Do you know: “The date shown [on many calendar emojis] is July 17? “This date was first used by Apple as a reference to when iCal for Mac premiered at MacWorld Expo in 2002. Since 2014 World Emoji Day” has been celebrated on this date at Emojipedia, says the host site. And I wholeheartedly agree with their suggestion, “🌟 We all use emojis every day, so why not celebrate them?” Makes perfect sense. Have fun! 📅 😊

July 28th: New Beginnings are always good during New Moon Musings ... they need not be large and expansive. Even the smallest change is a new beginning at some point in your life. Change a habit (hopefully for the good), upgrade your closet with “new you” clothes, or embark on a potentially life-changing creative project. They’re all new beginnings and a New Moon is the perfect time to do it.

According to ye olde Farmer’s Almanac, the New Moon
marks the beginning of a lunar cycle. and since it’s the opposite of a bright full moon, it’s dark, and isn’t generally visible with the naked eye. So we’ve taken to use the sliver of moon detectable just before (waning) or shortly after (waxing) the New Moon, as our “visual.”
This July 28th, it’s time to awaken your “inner child” creatively and expressively. Take pride in your efforts and feel free to take others on your new beginning journey!

July 30th: & 39er book readers uniteit's Paperback Book Day! Amazingly, there is no official link, so I’m claiming it in spirit, for our Big Bro site, Blast from Your Past books! If you or someone you know is into Oldies Rock & Roll, Rock their day with a fun memory-motivating book of pioneering Rock & Roll Radio DJs!

July 31st: ©Are you in love with LOVE? It’s National #LOVE Day! What or who do you love? I LOVE 39ers! The site dedicated to (hashtag) LOVE proclaims “love” as the most-used hashtag in social media. And how appropriate for those of us who LOVE Oldies Rock & Roll Radio DJs. The day was created by radio DJ Rick McNeely. Thank you, Rick!
Of course, Love has been a fan fave in nearly every medium, but none so expressive as music! Check out our Monthly Song of Note for the word’s use in Oldies music ... why it isn’t attached to Valentine’s Day, I have no idea ...

Monthly Song of Note
Perfect for National #LOVE Day we have LOVE coming and going in two top ten tunes on WING/Dayton, Ohio’s, “30 Heavy Hits” radio chart JULY 1972! The Carpenters found it and let it go in “Goodbye to Love” at #9. Further down the chart hovering at #25, sits “Little Woman Love” by McCartney & McCartney. Of course, it’s likely Paul wrote it and he added Linda’s name to it like all of his 1970+ Wings tunes. And it may sound a little condescending now, but we know they meant well.
Both great summer love songs, but for your Song of Note, I chose a Flack & Hathaway (Roberta & Donny, respectively) tune, hugging the chart at #7, “Where is the Love.” Um, somewhere under the summer moon? Tuneful fun to manifest your hot summer memories of 1972,
50 Years Ago this Month!

֎ For 39ers who Follow the Stars ...

It may not be sizzling everywhere, but certainly it’s a hot summer moon for ourCancer (June 21-July 22) 39ers. No slouch in summer, Leo‘s(July 23-August 22) warm spirit is soulfully steamy, as we celebrate July UN-birthdays!
When it comes to love, Cancer and Scorpio traits of devotion and dedication are similar. However, where Scorpio can be a bit warring when provoked, Cancer 39ers will protect if need be, but if their feelings are hurt, they’ll simply retreat until you coax them out. This month, though, your Cancer moon friends are ready to celebrate in the heated spirit of love. They’re hopeful and optimistic, as aspirations flourish under the summer moon.
On the other side of July, Leo strides with purpose under the bright summer sun. The prideful lion doesn’t need or want handholding as they strike an ardent pose, and dares you to walk with them into unchartered waters. (Figuratively or literally!) Leo’s vivacious personality invites adventure, which keeps them active in personal and community events. Be brave ... with Leo, it’ll likely be worth your while.
July 39er gift idea: While many of us consider birthstones by month, some gemstone experts prefer their jewels by Zodiac sign. The deep-red
ruby is perfect for your Cancer 39ers’ UN-birthday gift of passion, and the lucky Leo who receives a spiritual black onyx, will delight in its mystery.

ORIGINAL 1st post; LR’s / 39er NOTE 07/01/22: Argh. Late again! I’d call it a bad habit, but there is always a life reason. If only it was the fault of the Summer Moon. Sorry 39ers! Sometimes life’s curve balls hit a little hard. I’ll work to recoup asap. Unfortunately, we’re now facing a long Holiday weekend, so posting this one before mid-next week is unlikely. In the meantime, you’ll soon see the LOVE in the Monthly Song of Note and find more ways to Age with ATT-i-tude, JULY 39ers! Work in progress … and thankful for our lives of FREEDOM as we wait ...
