Happy UN-Birthday 39ers DECEMBER 2021

December 39ers – Year’s End is Great ATT-i-tude Adjustment Time!

Wow—can’t believe I’m so late with the 39 and Holding Club December article. Dang. Life is just in my way and this blog is the one that suffers. I’m trying. But sadly, I can’t say it won’t happen again.

What you see below is the best I could do to end the year. It’s “finished,” though I did not expound on some items, as usual. and I missed the celebratory date for one. But there is plenty of fun to still pique your interest. Here ya go … Happy UN-Birthday December 39ersand many more

֎ Celebrating DECEMBER 39ers ~ And More!
Spiritual Literacy Month: Though there is no link dedicated to Spiritual Literacy Month, this one takes you to an article on a calendar site, with basic information about how it came to be, and more. It will help you define “spiritual literacy”; take it from there—and enjoy your own spiritual journey this month!

December 8th: Since there is no official link, we designate Pretend to be a Time Traveler Day an official special day for our Big Bro site, Blast from Your Past. BFYP travels through time the first of every month. So, if you’re hankering for a nostalgic music and radio journey back to 50 Years Ago this Month, become a Time Traveler to BFYP anytime—we hope you have a real blast!

December 14th: Monkey see, monkey do, it’s Monkey Day! No lie … it even has a Wiki page celebrating the day and the interesting artists who originally created it to honor the monkeys sent into space for experimental stellar exploration. Ham, the first great ape to make a sub-orbital flight in 1961, returned to Earth and lived to a solid old age of 26.

December 24th: Happy Egg Nog Day! Well duh, what else would be a happy addition to Christmas Eve? Gather ‘round your Christmas Tree or festive room, be it virtual or physical, and raise a toast of this yummy libation (with multiple recipes, new and old) to whatever it is you love celebrating on this day … even if it’s simply a fun day in the week before New Year’s.

I owned a Howdy lunchbox million years ago!
December 27th: What day is it? It's Howdy Doody Day! Looking for something fun to celebrate between Christmas and the New Year? If you’re a 39er at the top end of Boomers, you’ll likely remember the popularity of this joyful, redheaded, freckle-faced, puppet and his human pal, Bob Smith.
Howdy began delighting young’uns on an equally young “boob tube” on this date in 1947 (lasting until 1960)! Though sadly, there’s no official link for the pioneering kids show, I found a site that runs a quirky daily event calendar with a blog article about Howdy Doody Day. Do you know Howdy has 48 adorable freckles—one for each State of the Union? Of course, that distinction only lasted until Alaska joined us in 1959. 😊 (Image: 1954 Howdy lunchbox)
It's Howdy Doody time | It's Howdy Doody time | Bob Smith and Howdy, too | Say "Howdy do" to you …♪

December 31st: We made it—happy New Year’s Eve! Especially these past two years, we ALL want to celebrate the end of 2021 with gusto and look brightly toward a better New Year. For 39ers—and literally everyone around the globe—each New Year has become ever more precious. Let’s celebrate not only the turning of the calendar, but if you’re reading this, appreciate with all your heart, the fact that you can. Happy New Year’s Eve, 39ers, wherever you are, and let’s give 2022 all the love and support possible for a happy, prosperous New Year!

December Vintage Song of Note:
This is where we like to Pretend to be a Time Traveler every month, with a memory from the top hit tunes of 1971,
50 Years Ago this Month!  I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing” (In Perfect Harmony) by The Hillside Singers began as an advertising jingle for Coca Cola. Once upon a time, advertisers created new ditties to hawk their wares. Now, the trend is to use old tunes to tug on our nostalgia strings. This song with its charitable sentiment, debuted at #36 on WCFL/Chicago’s top hit tunes for Dec 23, 1971, just in time for Christmas and New Year’s. And still comes up often during the Holidays.
I'd like to teach the world to sing | In perfect harmony | I'd like to hold it in my arms | And keep it company …♪

֎ For 39ers who Follow the Stars
Do you have a Sagittarian 39er (11/22-12/21)  in your life? These 39ers are especially suited for the Holiday Season party planning—and enjoying. Their Zodiac icon may be an Archer, but they flit from guest-to-guest like the social butterfly they really are. That doesn’t mean you Sags are happy all the time or that you always make your closest friends/family happy. Sagittarian bluntness can be brutal—not intentionally, but in the spirit of honest sharing—just before they flash that electric smile at you again.
This month, my dear Sagittarius 39ers, you’re all about family, love, lifestyle, and starting anew or enhancing your life in a big way. By the end of the year, you’ll be patiently waiting to brighten the New Year with big plans, and join everyone for a new beginning!

This brings us to Capricorn 39ers (12/22-01/19) who guide us toward year’s end and a bright 2022, with focused determination. That’s also why you may see your Capricorn friend frown so much. It isn’t intentional. They may even be inwardly happy! It’s just a sign of their dedication to the needs of others. Gently try to remind them to smile.
For Capricorn 39ers, December 2021 is a reminder to listen to the needs of your body and whatever you do, take care of yourself. It’s a must, before you can properly do for others.

For all of us, when the dust clears, leaving sparkly remnants of Christmas and special Holidays behind, we have a week to gather our thoughts and resolve—what DO we want our lives in 2022 to look like? It’s up to you. Happy New Year! Cheers!

Happy UN-Birthday 39ers NOVEMBER 2021

November: Thankful, resilient & transformative (& finally posted!)

First, a profound apology to all November 39ers (including myself!) for this lamentably late post of the 39 and Holding Club monthly article. I wish it could have been avoided—pain and all. However, I hope this makes up for it a bit, and you enjoy what I’ve been able to put together for you.

֎ Celebrating NOVEMBER 39ers ~ And More!

Of course, we can still celebrate the monthly events, like Adopt a Senior Pet Month—senior pets need love too!; National Gratitude Month—don’t overlook the need (for you and others) to show your gratitude; and my personal fave, Family Stories Month!
Thanksgiving is the perfect time to
interview your family and record their rich, vibrant lives for your own multi-generational “Family Book of Memories.”

But what have we missed? Since I’m partial to my once-burnished red hair (now refreshed monthly by L’Oreal!), I hate to admit we missed November 5th’s National Love Your Red Hair Day, so I’ll just toast to kindred spirits, with the 7th’s International Merlot Day.

What’s left? Plenty! And more than the annual Thanksgiving feast. Let’s start with …

[Vintage jukebox lighter BFYP Collection]
November 24th: ♪ So put another dime in the jukebox, baby … ♪*  It’s National Jukebox Day! Our Big Bro site, Blast from Your Past loves this day, because pioneering jukeboxes and Rock Radio DJs made a terrific musical team back in the Golden Years of Rock & Roll. 1950s-1980s, Rock & Roll and its many iconic bands and artists, flourished with the shared promotions of radio and jukeboxes. No respectable diner was without one, and even the diviest dive bar played the day’s Rockin’ & Country hits on a colorful jukebox, as they climbed the Radio charts. ♪ I love to give the girls a whirl | to the music of an old jukebox … ♪**
       [*
I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll,” originally recorded by British boys, the Arrows in 1975 and memorably recorded by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts (1981). **Honky-tonk Man,” first recorded in 1956 by Johnny Horton and famously re-released in 1986 by Dwight Yoakam. And P.S.: I’m inherently lazy, so I write jukebox as one word—originally, it was two and can now be either.]

November 26th: It’s the day after Thanksgiving … what are you doing? Clawing through the last vestiges of Black Friday sales that began in October? Why not relax, grab a recorder, and actually talk with some of your family and friends who are lingering in the living room, for a National Day of Listening. Although with issues, its Wiki page urges us to record our stories for future generations. An admirable suggestion. Something I’ve done for years on all three of my sites (39AndHoldingClub, BlastFromYourPast, and PenchantForPenning.) If you’ve never done it, it’s easy! Just start with your memories …

November 30th: Yep, it’s an obscure Tuesday after Thanksgiving and you're burnt out. Regain your energy with kindness! It’s Giving Tuesday! Although begun in 2012 as a one-day movement, this honorable day is encouraging us to make it a weekly occurrence. Give. Not just in dollars, but in deeds and thoughts. So after you spend all day at the computer on Cyber Monday spending money, make Giving Tuesday your favorite day of the week, and share your generosity of spirit beyond Christmas gifts—as the site says, “ … whether it’s some of your time, a donation, or the power of your voice in your local community.”

November Song of Note: This “Month of Thanks“ and “Family Month” is perfect for a song that led us to think about family dynamics, back in NOVEMBER 1971. “Family Affair” by Sly and the Family Stone hit #21 on KOWN/Escondido, California’s Top 30 survey. Though a tad cynical for a “family” tune, its soul and funk sound speaks to the reality of family life. Cheers to your family and finding more happiness this November than expressed by Sly and his Family 50 Years Ago this Month!  You can’t leave ‘cause your heart is there … ♪ Bringing back tuneful memories of 1971

֎ For 39ers who Follow the Stars
Good thing
Scorps (10/23-11/21) are known for their transformations. Yep, that’s me, too, and boy, does my life need transforming! If you’re also feeling the pressure to “change it up,” you can do it. This month is all about our Phoenix tendencies, inside and maybe even outside. Make the most of it, Scorpio—just make sure you weigh all your options and wield your talons wisely. Stay true to yourself. And remember, you have friends (you don’t have to go it alone).
Often the consummate money-maker, Sagittarians (11/22-12/21) roll into the Holidays focused on business. The moon and Venus work together throughout the month to maximize your business and personal life. Your big ideas might be the best yet. Tie up the loose ends early in the third week and throw your family/friends a great Thanksgiving dinner! If you’re a friend of a Sagittarian, offer encouragement … it will be welcome.

Wellllll this is a fine predicament I got myself into! Car in the shop … took a debilitating fall in the hallway … and here I am, leg/knee in brace, propped up on pillows trying to salvage some of November for our UN-Birthday 39ers, before the month vanishes altogether! Give me another day (or two) and I’ll regale you with a month of more reasons to celebrate, and I’ll find something to laugh about! I swear.

It’s my birthday month, too. Heck of a way to spend it. But I, like many others, have  had worse, so I’ll focus on that silver lining (when I find it) and transform the negative to a positive. So which Zodiac sign does that make me? … the mysterious Scorpio or party-loving Sagittarius? These two sun signs have some similar traits, but boy, do they go about them differently! For now, celebrate being you, whichever you are, and I’ll be back soon with 39er November fun! Coming up ... Adopt a Senior Pet Month, Family Stories Month, and November's Song of Note ... and more ...
