39ers Aging with ATTitude October 2025

Halloween Masks Can’t Hide Lyin’ Eyes

Happy UN-Birthday October 39ers! ♪ And many more… ♪

Finally! The full article is waiting for you, although not many images yet. Granted, that may make it a little tedious to read, but I'm hoping the special October 39 And Holding article is as entertaining for you to read as it was for me to write!

This month begins innocuous enough, celebrating the balanced nature of Libra stars of the sky as they bustle around prepping for the Holidays. However, it ends with Scorpio peering out at us from behind their Halloween masks. Ominous? Hardly. They love the good-natured intrigue and spiritual depth of their sign, intensified by Halloween. Let’s start peeking around corners and climbing creaky stairs as the spirits of October pull back the veil on …

֎ Celebrating OCTOBER 39ers ~ And More!
As always, we begin with October’s stars of the Zodiac. What’s in store for Libra and Scorpio, as they prep for parties and personal changes? Let’s take a quick peek …

October 39er Strs of the Sky
Libra (09/23-10/22) 39ers finish in their sign on the 22nd but what they learned while the Zodiac favored them will remain with them to the New Year. Scorpio (10/23-11/21) 39ers will pick up the mantle and set some things straight before the Holidays begin in earnest. But first …

For all of us: Though I’m not convinced we particularly need this type of focus at the moment, we’re all going to feel a bit needy. October is all about “me, me, me.” For some of us, we truly could do with some alone-time, and a little more concentration on our inner well-being. Don’t let anyone belittle your need for a sense of balance or tell you you’re being selfish. It may come naturally to Librans, but the rest of us must work a little harder to achieve innermost peace. By the 20th and the New Moon’s arrival on the 21st, we’ll be refreshed and ready for evocative discussions with everyone.
As you saunter out of your Zodiac sign, Librans, it will be apparent that this past month, you made a major overhaul in every aspect of life. You may have already (at time of this late post) felt a heavy influence from the 6th’s Full Moon to examine both your personal and professional connections. If you wait until the 13th to make any life-altering decisions, you’ll feel the heightened strength needed to move forward. You’ve been waiting … make those projects and plans happen!
Ah, Scorpio, eager are you to enter the intensity of your Zodiac sign? You’re chomping at the bit to make changes to upgrade your daily life. Carrying forward from the Full Moon, by the New Moon, you’re ready to bring a new reality into focus. You will possess the power to back your words and actions, especially apparent when your personal life takes center stage just before Halloween. Have fun, but there’s no hurry—love is in the air through January of the New Year! Party on …

October’s Vintage Song of Note

We’re sharing October’s Song of Note with our Big Bro site, Blast from Your Past, but with a twist. Of course, for the music site, it’s all about the tune at the top of the charts. For 39ers, it’s all about life.
By 40+ we’ve generally learned a thing or two about Halloween, masks, and the “Lyin’ Eyes” they attempt to hide.
The Eagles’ take on it in 1975 reminded us that the eyes are indeed, “windows to the soul.” Hopefully, as 39ers, we’ve finally reached a stage of life when we’ve begun to recognize the signs. Don’t you know by now, even behind masks at Halloween Honey, you can’t hide your lyin’ eyes We’re bringing you Rock Radio History  ... and more tuneful vintage tidbits to manifest your memories. Let’s keep the Rock Rockin’ from 50 Years Ago this Month!

֎ More OCTOBER Fun for Everyone

October and Halloween is a perfect time to celebrate BFYP’s Rockin’ pioneering DJ, Wolfman Jack! However, since he adorns KISN/Portland, Oregon’s December music chart, we’ll wait. But still … Owoooooo!

Slink on through to Halloween in Black Cat Awareness Month!* The official sponsor’s awareness month page is for the day it became official in 2018, however, it’s a current, fun, site to explore if you’re a cat lover. They combine the health and well-being of your cat with spiritual, Zodiac wisdom. We know that black cats are often discriminated against, but they’re just as loving and purrrrrr-fect for the person who loves a good mystery.
If your sleek, black cat is also party of the family, as it should be, surely it will be included in your writings for October’s
Family History Month. I am a firm believer in sharing family tales and recording them for future generations.
Most genealogy sites, like this sponsor, provide great resources and tips … for an often hefty price. And believe me, I get, that as important as it is, researching and documenting our family histories is still a financial “luxury.” So I have a couple of suggestions if you need a no-cost place to start …
It’s no secret that several churches have extensive family records that stretch back through the centuries, like the free research site at
FamilySearch.org, a service by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They offer info to digitize family photos and mementos, and suggestions for telling your stories.

If you don’t want to be affiliated with a particular religious site, there are others, like a handy list of top 20 genealogy research sites by the FamilyHistoryFoundation.com. Even the U.S. Government has a location full of tips to get you started—military records and census records are particularly helpful. (Albeit, not updated during shutdowns.)

But let’s just get you started on Family History Month with your own generational memories, and a reminder to record them—somewhere. A journal, a digital document, a voice recorder—make it a habit to spend quality time on your family’s history—especially if a spontaneous memory comes to mind. Don’t wait … record it. Our own Living Legacy tips are another great way to ease into it.

After an exhausting day of family writing and researching, how about a family dinner? October is also National Pizza Month! Sadly, it’s a pretty good guess that the sponsor site hasn’t been updated in a while … like 15 years? But much of their info is still relevant, definitely interesting and if you love pizza like I do, it’ll make you hungry. I guarantee you’ll chuckle at least once … order a pizza and enjoy! Do you know that top five pizza sales days are: Halloween, Thanksgiving eve, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, and Super Bowl Sunday. Mark your calendars! And want to wear your pizza-love for all the world to see? Brownielocks has your craving in gifts! “Happiness is a warm pizza!” …

Aging Tip of the Month: Of course, my best tip is to remind 39ers that Aging with ATTitude keeps you Young at Heart. However, standard behavioral tips are good, too.
       A
CNN report from last year told of a study that informed us, “ …older adults who reported being chronically lonely had a 56% higher risk of stroke than those who were consistently rated low on the loneliness scale …” It’s a certified indication that our emotions are definitely tied to our overall physical and mental well-being. So get out there and party! LOL
Just kidding. Well, sort of. Of course, they’re talking about meaningful friendships. It isn’t like you need a passel of friends, but one or two who truly know you and care will provide needed emotional stability. Achieving that will be different for everyone, but a necessity to help you come to terms with whatever life throws at you, and lighten your load. Then, you can party!

Tuesday ~ October 7th: Although the Full Moon is strongest at its zenith, its power vibrates through the three days before and after, and its effects can take you through the month. So celebrate the first of this year’s Supermoons with the aftereffects of October’s largest, Full Harvest Moon, all month long! Although its full glory happened before this posted, it’s still apparent in many areas of the country, even a half-or-less moon, is brighter than usual. Feel the Full Moon Magic lingering as the moon plays peek-a-boo with the clouds, and carry its brightness within.

Wednesday ~ October 15th: “The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age.” ~ Lucille Ball. Today is I Love Lucy Day! Yes, I’m old enough to actually remember the crazy antics of Lucille Ball shows. Apparently, the original sponsor of this day decided they were too old to continue sponsorship. Too bad, as she is the icon of women’s comedy.
There’s way too much fun and info to post here, but I searched for a few links that will introduce her to you if you never heard of her, or poke your memories if you heard her mutter, “Now Ricky …” when she was in trouble. And I found Granville, Tennessee, that takes us back to Mayberry and I Love Lucy. They even have a Mayberry-I Love Lucy festival taking place next April! “There’s a place in Tennessee where time doesn’t just slow down – it performs a complete U-turn and takes you back to an era when folks knew their neighbors’ names and nobody had ever heard of a push notification.” Sounds like a terrific town to take a slow trip down Memory Lane.

Saturday ~ October 18th: Feeling lazy today? Want to slow things down a bit? Celebrate Sloth International Day and donate to keep them a viable member of the wildlife family! What makes them smile? Sloths are never in a hurry and take their days soooooo slowly that “… on average, sloths travel 41 yards per day …” says sponsoring World Wildlife Fund. But, “Why are Sloths Slow?” They answer this and other interesting sloth questions, like do you know they’re strong swimmers? So, yes, sloths may be just as languid and sluggish as they look, but boy, do they look happy!

Monday ~ October 20th: Lions, and tigers, and Bigfoot, oh my! And if you don’t know where that mimicked iconic line came from, I’m sorry for you. But it perfectly fits today’s celebrated National Sasquatch Awareness Day! Although the sponsor link is to a 2021 ABC news article, it does give the 2009 origin of this auspicious day, still making headlines today.
From running competitions to hiking events, to festivals, Bigfoot is the focus on this day across the country. One line in the festivities caught my eye, “It’s always ‘Where’s Bigfoot?’ … but never ‘How’s Bigfoot?’” Great point! One city in California lays claim to “Bigfoot Capital of the World.” Although their multi-day festival is in July. Learn more about the big guy and why he deserves his own day.

Tuesday ~ October 21st: Celebrate October’s New Beginnings with New Moon Musings to reset and carry you forward into November, when it will become our 2nd Supermoon of the season. How does one go about resetting?     ~ A five-minute meditation with deep breathing does wonders to feel refreshed. It doesn’t matter what time of day, although if you make it a daily habit (a great idea!) set it for the same time every day. Sit or stand, whichever works for you. And then what, you ask?

~ First, set a soft timer alert for five minutes … you’re not sleeping so it doesn’t need to be a shrill, ear-splitting tone or the hard-thumping beat of your fave dance song. Take a moment to get comfortable and …
~ Start with a set number of deep breaths, which can be anywhere from 3 to 9—I do 9, as it generally takes that long to tell my mind to shut up. Again, consistency is key. So, focus on your breath … with your mouth closed, breathe in from your diaphragm and let the air release slowly through slightly-open lips, for however long it takes you to …
~ Quiet your mind, listen to your heart … it sounds simple, but if you meditate at all, you know your brain has a mind of its own! Shhhh, empty your mind of all thoughts, and …
~ Once you’ve finished deep breathing, you can let your mind wander through a meadow, or feel ocean waves on your feet, but NO thinking about life! Continue quiet breathing until your soft alarm sounds. Ahhhhh.

Friday ~ October 31st: Boo! Make it what you will … it’s Halloween! Or for the Celts, Samhain is as sacred now, as it was when it first fostered the holiday. Halloween has become as diverse in meaning as costumes at a masquerade party. It began as a seasonal ritual, segued into religion, cultivates the spiritual realm, and eventually cultivated such party animals as Wolfman Jack. But for kids—yes, the Inner Kids too—it’s still all about candy and costumes. And for the Inner Child in us all … party on!

39ers Aging with ATTitude September 2025

A 39er September to Remember ~ Dance With Me!

Final Update 09/12/25: Happy UN-Birthday September 39ers! ♪ And many more… ♪ When you’re a 39er who wakes up every day ready to face whatever it brings, you’ve already won half the battle. Oh, I didn’t say it is always easy, but ATTitude is everything. I hope you’ll join me this month in celebrating a Fun Fall Ya’ll!

I’ve decided to designate each season (whether we have the matching weather or not) with catchy, lighthearted phrases, to inspire and promote. (The seasonal titles will loosely follow the solstices in whichever month they occur).

We already began seasonal signage with this year’s Endless Summer, as declared by my surfing gnome door décor. (Of course, memories of the same-named vintage surf movie didn’t hurt either.)

Now, we slide into a Fun Fall Ya-all, followed by Whimsical Winter and finally, bounce into A Spring Thing. (All are subject to change, but these are my initial thoughts.) Are ya ready? Let’s conjure the Fall’s cool air as we slide into …

֎ Celebrating SEPTEMBER 39ers ~ And More!

I know I’m corny, but you love it, right? If you don’t, you’re reading the wrong article … but if you stay, you just might find you like it. Speaking of corny … September brings us the Full Corn Moon! Sorry, couldn’t help m’self. 😊 Along with the Full Corn Moon we celebrate National Honey Month, and National Sewing Month. But first, dance with me in celestial fun … life’s too short not to dance …

Well, that is, when your body is cooperating. Unfortunately, I still labored this Labor Day with the aftereffects of the Summer broken toe. Thanks for understanding the late posts! So finally, let’s start looking up to …

SEPTEMBER 39er Stars of the Sky
As usual, we feature a mini-horoscope for all, with a few more details for our 39er UN-birthday friends, after which we have loads of fun for everyone. Enjoy!

For all of us: As the skies finish with their Summer karmic fun, we’ll still feel its effects moving through September, its intensity giving our basic instincts and intuition steady focus. A little love spark or even a charitable action may slip into your daily routine. By month’s end, if you let your instincts take over, a rewarding new project could be just what you’ve been seeking.
       The Summer wind-up for
Virgo (08/23-09/22) will manifest itself forcefully. You need to determine which relationship needs a major overhaul—business or personal. Your commitment is the key. Give yourself some introspective time to consider your needs and options—then act with confidence that you’re going in the right direction.

On the other hand, m’dear Librans (09/23-10/22) … you’re working too hard! You don’t need just introspection, you need to stop and listen to the Universe about your health. Your energy drain of late isn’t only physical, however. It’s truly time to do a full, personal assessment and overhaul. Find some quiet time
and look within—what can you do to fix your physical and emotional well-being? You can do it.
If you’re gifting a Virgo or Libra pal, September’s gorgeous sapphire symbolizes wisdom, loyalty and protection. Especially fitting for both of them this month. The stalwart aster and sweet morning glory are September’s birth flowers.

September Vintage Song of Note
I want to take you light-heartedly into Fall …kick your feet up through falling leaves, and “
Dance With Me”! Our September Song of Note was a Top 40 hit for the band, Orleans, which was probably as much a surprise to them as anyone. In fact, it nearly didn’t get written!

Married band members (at the time), John and Johanna Hall, created the up-tempo tune with John writing the melody first. Johanna, no slouch with words as a former journalist, made the easy transition to lyricist, and she suggested the title “Dance With Me” to John. He was less than impressed.
It wasn’t until Johnanna had a lyric inspiration while they were on a drive one day that she won him over … "Pick the beat up and kick your feet up" caught his attention. This month 1975
, “Dance With Me” jumped all the way to #22 in its first appearance on KERN/Bakersfield, California’s, Radio chart. But that isn’t the most astonishing element to this story.
In 1977 John Hall began moving away from the stage of music to become a proponent of environmental issues that lead him to the U.S. House of Representatives as a New York Democratic Senator (2007-2011). Did he give up on music?
Don’t be silly
Rumor has it, Orleans is still active in a current iteration, but I really had to dig to find a viable contact site. So, m’dear 39ers
Dance with me | I want to be your partner | Can't you see the music is just starting | Night is calling, and I am falling | Dance with me  ... More tuneful vintage tidbits to manifest your memories and keep the Rock Rockin’ from 50 Years Ago this Month!

֎ More SEPTEMBER Fun for Everyone

Are you a honey-lover? Oh, don’t go getting all weird on me. I simply mean September is National Honey Month! If you’ve never really gotten into honey as a food specialty, perhaps it’s because you don’t know much about the miracle ingredient it is!
       Link sponsor,
National Honey Board, is predominantly for beekeeping knowledge and experts. However, it also educates the rest of us in its benefits at every age … especially 39ers. As they say, “Honey is a one-ingredient recipe made by bees, flowers and mother nature herself.”

If you’re looking for something to celebrate that reflects your more animalistic side, you might want to check out National Save A Tiger Month. Two different sponsors reflect our interest and need to preserve these impressive beasts. So, 39ers, are you a pussycat on the inside, but a tiger on the outside? Or vice versa?

One sponsor doesn’t just focus on tigers, though they surely like to protect them, along with other big cats. The other is also diverse, with emphasis on world wildlife in general and tigers a specialty. Both offer options for you to participate in their world-worthy efforts. In the meantime, enjoy learning about this most magnificent wild creature, the tiger. Pretty kitty

Stitchery, crochet, knitting, clothes design … what do they have in common? It’s National Sewing Month! The sponsor site hasn’t been updated since 2021 but still has some good info. Below is a more current link offering free sewing classes at varying levels. With prices so high on everything, is it time to drag grandma’s old sewing machine out of the closet? Oh, and I’m not saying this just for women—sewing is not gender-specific—I’ve seen guys enjoy sewing too. It’s a great way to save dollars on everything from clothes to Holiday gifts, to home decorating, and to soothe the savage soul with creativity.

Sunday ~ September 7th: Have you been hankerin’ for a big, luscious, roasted ear of corn? No wonder! This month we enjoyed (yes, sadly, past-tense, as this was posted late) the Full Moon Magic of a Full Corn Moon. Early natives and settlers harvested their corn this time of year, just in time, before the frost set in. We can learn from that to clear our minds before the Winter doldrums take over. Feeling amorous? ‘Tis also mating season for some animals. Think moose, elk, and deer.

September 18th-21st: There’s a 37th annual Hummingbird Celebration happening in Rockport-Fulton, Texas, this weekend to welcome the Fall migration of these darlings of the home garden. Their site welcomes you, and during the festivities they “… offer speaker programs, shopping, birding trips, hummer home bus tours and much more.”
If you can’t make it, I found a
great interactive link where you can learn more about hummers and tune in on YouTube for a live cam of the colorful little guys. As they state, “…the skies over every U.S. state and Canadian province become a nectar-fueled highway for tiny bejeweled avians” this time of year.

Sunday ~ September 21st & 22nd: Are you ready for a powerful New Moon? Generally this is the time when we set our minds to new projects and innovative ideas. Making it more intense on the 22nd is the Autumn Equinox, hard on the New Moon’s heels. What does “equinox” mean? It’s derived from the latin aequus, meaning equal, and nox, for night. On the equinox, day and night are roughly equal in length, with days getting shorter until December 21st. Take advantage now and in your New Moon Musings create new ways to move yourself through Fall’s shorter days.

Wednesday ~ September 24th: Do you know where the exclamation point goes? At the end of Punctuation Day! It’s a real, celebrated day, according to its sponsor, Wikipedia. Ok. Well, while we’re at it, I’ll share a great suggestion by Senior Living Media, “Make it a day where the only controversies are whether to use one space or two after a period and yay or nay to the Oxford Comma!” Here! Here!

Friday ~ September 26th: Although National Bakery Day is mostly for indie bakeries to flaunt their goodies, it’s a perfect day for the rest of us to play hooky and bake up a storm for the weekend! Who knows, if you’re a serious baker looking to forge a new career, you could become a new member of the Retail Bakers of America. In the meantime, I’ll take a half-dozen apple turnovers. Yum …

Friday ~ September 26th: Speaking of apples … It’s also Johnny Appleseed Day according to Wiki. Who was this guy who now has a street named after him in Leominster (once, Province of Massachusetts Bay), Massachusetts? Born John Chapman (1774-1845), he did, indeed, become a master nurseryman, conservationist, missionary, spreading his faith, knowledge and love for apple trees across Colonial America. It’s an interesting story—take a look, then let’s celebrate and bake an apple pie!

Saturday ~ September 27th: This last Saturday of the month, look up into the night sky and enjoy Fall Astronomy Day. It isn’t supported by an official sponsor, but I found a one-page information site by the Astronomical League, “… a grass roots movement designed to share the joy of astronomy with the general population – ‘Bringing Astronomy to the People.’” Cool. For more information however, the Farmers’ Almanac suggests ways to celebrate and a guide to visible planets.

Tuesday ~ September 30th:  Do you know it’s Save the Koala Day? Have you hugged your Koala today? Not a real one, silly. They’re saving them at the sponsor site in Australia and have been promoting Koalas all month. You can adopt a Koala and donate to help raise awareness. Then buy your own little TY Koala to see and hug every day, to remind you of your kindness!
