39ers Aging with ATTitude September 2025

A 39er September to Remember ~ Dance With Me!

Final Update 09/12/25: Happy UN-Birthday September 39ers! ♪ And many more… ♪ When you’re a 39er who wakes up every day ready to face whatever it brings, you’ve already won half the battle. Oh, I didn’t say it is always easy, but ATTitude is everything. I hope you’ll join me this month in celebrating a Fun Fall Ya’ll!

I’ve decided to designate each season (whether we have the matching weather or not) with catchy, lighthearted phrases, to inspire and promote. (The seasonal titles will loosely follow the solstices in whichever month they occur).

We already began seasonal signage with this year’s Endless Summer, as declared by my surfing gnome door décor. (Of course, memories of the same-named vintage surf movie didn’t hurt either.)

Now, we slide into a Fun Fall Ya-all, followed by Whimsical Winter and finally, bounce into A Spring Thing. (All are subject to change, but these are my initial thoughts.) Are ya ready? Let’s conjure the Fall’s cool air as we slide into …

֎ Celebrating SEPTEMBER 39ers ~ And More!

I know I’m corny, but you love it, right? If you don’t, you’re reading the wrong article … but if you stay, you just might find you like it. Speaking of corny … September brings us the Full Corn Moon! Sorry, couldn’t help m’self. 😊 Along with the Full Corn Moon we celebrate National Honey Month, and National Sewing Month. But first, dance with me in celestial fun … life’s too short not to dance …

Well, that is, when your body is cooperating. Unfortunately, I still labored this Labor Day with the aftereffects of the Summer broken toe. Thanks for understanding the late posts! So finally, let’s start looking up to …

SEPTEMBER 39er Stars of the Sky
As usual, we feature a mini-horoscope for all, with a few more details for our 39er UN-birthday friends, after which we have loads of fun for everyone. Enjoy!

For all of us: As the skies finish with their Summer karmic fun, we’ll still feel its effects moving through September, its intensity giving our basic instincts and intuition steady focus. A little love spark or even a charitable action may slip into your daily routine. By month’s end, if you let your instincts take over, a rewarding new project could be just what you’ve been seeking.
       The Summer wind-up for
Virgo (08/23-09/22) will manifest itself forcefully. You need to determine which relationship needs a major overhaul—business or personal. Your commitment is the key. Give yourself some introspective time to consider your needs and options—then act with confidence that you’re going in the right direction.

On the other hand, m’dear Librans (09/23-10/22) … you’re working too hard! You don’t need just introspection, you need to stop and listen to the Universe about your health. Your energy drain of late isn’t only physical, however. It’s truly time to do a full, personal assessment and overhaul. Find some quiet time
and look within—what can you do to fix your physical and emotional well-being? You can do it.
If you’re gifting a Virgo or Libra pal, September’s gorgeous sapphire symbolizes wisdom, loyalty and protection. Especially fitting for both of them this month. The stalwart aster and sweet morning glory are September’s birth flowers.

September Vintage Song of Note
I want to take you light-heartedly into Fall …kick your feet up through falling leaves, and “
Dance With Me”! Our September Song of Note was a Top 40 hit for the band, Orleans, which was probably as much a surprise to them as anyone. In fact, it nearly didn’t get written!

Married band members (at the time), John and Johanna Hall, created the up-tempo tune with John writing the melody first. Johanna, no slouch with words as a former journalist, made the easy transition to lyricist, and she suggested the title “Dance With Me” to John. He was less than impressed.
It wasn’t until Johnanna had a lyric inspiration while they were on a drive one day that she won him over … "Pick the beat up and kick your feet up" caught his attention. This month 1975
, “Dance With Me” jumped all the way to #22 in its first appearance on KERN/Bakersfield, California’s, Radio chart. But that isn’t the most astonishing element to this story.
In 1977 John Hall began moving away from the stage of music to become a proponent of environmental issues that lead him to the U.S. House of Representatives as a New York Democratic Senator (2007-2011). Did he give up on music?
Don’t be silly
Rumor has it, Orleans is still active in a current iteration, but I really had to dig to find a viable contact site. So, m’dear 39ers
Dance with me | I want to be your partner | Can't you see the music is just starting | Night is calling, and I am falling | Dance with me  ... More tuneful vintage tidbits to manifest your memories and keep the Rock Rockin’ from 50 Years Ago this Month!

֎ More SEPTEMBER Fun for Everyone

Are you a honey-lover? Oh, don’t go getting all weird on me. I simply mean September is National Honey Month! If you’ve never really gotten into honey as a food specialty, perhaps it’s because you don’t know much about the miracle ingredient it is!
       Link sponsor,
National Honey Board, is predominantly for beekeeping knowledge and experts. However, it also educates the rest of us in its benefits at every age … especially 39ers. As they say, “Honey is a one-ingredient recipe made by bees, flowers and mother nature herself.”

If you’re looking for something to celebrate that reflects your more animalistic side, you might want to check out National Save A Tiger Month. Two different sponsors reflect our interest and need to preserve these impressive beasts. So, 39ers, are you a pussycat on the inside, but a tiger on the outside? Or vice versa?

One sponsor doesn’t just focus on tigers, though they surely like to protect them, along with other big cats. The other is also diverse, with emphasis on world wildlife in general and tigers a specialty. Both offer options for you to participate in their world-worthy efforts. In the meantime, enjoy learning about this most magnificent wild creature, the tiger. Pretty kitty

Stitchery, crochet, knitting, clothes design … what do they have in common? It’s National Sewing Month! The sponsor site hasn’t been updated since 2021 but still has some good info. Below is a more current link offering free sewing classes at varying levels. With prices so high on everything, is it time to drag grandma’s old sewing machine out of the closet? Oh, and I’m not saying this just for women—sewing is not gender-specific—I’ve seen guys enjoy sewing too. It’s a great way to save dollars on everything from clothes to Holiday gifts, to home decorating, and to soothe the savage soul with creativity.

Sunday ~ September 7th: Have you been hankerin’ for a big, luscious, roasted ear of corn? No wonder! This month we enjoyed (yes, sadly, past-tense, as this was posted late) the Full Moon Magic of a Full Corn Moon. Early natives and settlers harvested their corn this time of year, just in time, before the frost set in. We can learn from that to clear our minds before the Winter doldrums take over. Feeling amorous? ‘Tis also mating season for some animals. Think moose, elk, and deer.

September 18th-21st: There’s a 37th annual Hummingbird Celebration happening in Rockport-Fulton, Texas, this weekend to welcome the Fall migration of these darlings of the home garden. Their site welcomes you, and during the festivities they “… offer speaker programs, shopping, birding trips, hummer home bus tours and much more.”
If you can’t make it, I found a
great interactive link where you can learn more about hummers and tune in on YouTube for a live cam of the colorful little guys. As they state, “…the skies over every U.S. state and Canadian province become a nectar-fueled highway for tiny bejeweled avians” this time of year.

Sunday ~ September 21st & 22nd: Are you ready for a powerful New Moon? Generally this is the time when we set our minds to new projects and innovative ideas. Making it more intense on the 22nd is the Autumn Equinox, hard on the New Moon’s heels. What does “equinox” mean? It’s derived from the latin aequus, meaning equal, and nox, for night. On the equinox, day and night are roughly equal in length, with days getting shorter until December 21st. Take advantage now and in your New Moon Musings create new ways to move yourself through Fall’s shorter days.

Wednesday ~ September 24th: Do you know where the exclamation point goes? At the end of Punctuation Day! It’s a real, celebrated day, according to its sponsor, Wikipedia. Ok. Well, while we’re at it, I’ll share a great suggestion by Senior Living Media, “Make it a day where the only controversies are whether to use one space or two after a period and yay or nay to the Oxford Comma!” Here! Here!

Friday ~ September 26th: Although National Bakery Day is mostly for indie bakeries to flaunt their goodies, it’s a perfect day for the rest of us to play hooky and bake up a storm for the weekend! Who knows, if you’re a serious baker looking to forge a new career, you could become a new member of the Retail Bakers of America. In the meantime, I’ll take a half-dozen apple turnovers. Yum …

Friday ~ September 26th: Speaking of apples … It’s also Johnny Appleseed Day according to Wiki. Who was this guy who now has a street named after him in Leominster (once, Province of Massachusetts Bay), Massachusetts? Born John Chapman (1774-1845), he did, indeed, become a master nurseryman, conservationist, missionary, spreading his faith, knowledge and love for apple trees across Colonial America. It’s an interesting story—take a look, then let’s celebrate and bake an apple pie!

Saturday ~ September 27th: This last Saturday of the month, look up into the night sky and enjoy Fall Astronomy Day. It isn’t supported by an official sponsor, but I found a one-page information site by the Astronomical League, “… a grass roots movement designed to share the joy of astronomy with the general population – ‘Bringing Astronomy to the People.’” Cool. For more information however, the Farmers’ Almanac suggests ways to celebrate and a guide to visible planets.

Tuesday ~ September 30th:  Do you know it’s Save the Koala Day? Have you hugged your Koala today? Not a real one, silly. They’re saving them at the sponsor site in Australia and have been promoting Koalas all month. You can adopt a Koala and donate to help raise awareness. Then buy your own little TY Koala to see and hug every day, to remind you of your kindness!

And dear readers, I just want you to know that I try my best to create an informative, aesthetically creative article for you each month. However, Blogger is not a professional hosting site—but they’re free through Google. So we’re stuck with their crummy platform that doesn’t work well to manipulate images with writing, especially if you aren’t a techie who knows HTML. Trust me, I’ve tried for years to write articles without gaps between paragraphs and even between sentences. Sigh. Maybe I’ll win the lottery and be able to afford a professional hosting site someday.

39ers Aging with ATTitude Platitudes September 2023

39er Kids will be Kids!

For some reason, I know apologies aren’t really necessary when I’m late with this blog. I figure, by the time we’re 39ers, we know life is never going to go exactly as planned. It may be a reasonable facsimile, but daily schedules are subject to frequent, frustrating change.

Okay, so some of it was procrastination … sorry … but I was reading our local newspaper (yes, the black-and-white-print-that-comes-off-on-your fingers news) and noted an event named “Older & Bolder Expo.” Of course, that caught my eye. We 39ers embody the title!

The annual community expo at a senior center listed the usual speaking topics: health care, senior care, service providers, senior center “activities,” health-related exhibitors and the requisite products for sale.

Unless you just “turned old” overnight, you’ve been to more than a few of these since turning 40 (for your parents, of course). However, the news article didn’t mention anything FUN for 39ers!

Let’s just say “older and bolder” refers to those a tad over 40—make it retirement age—62. Still, there was nothing on the event website that sounded FUN at any age. Here’s a topic to consider for an expo: “How to LAUGH at 62+!” I know there are organizations that plan events and outings for seniors. Old age doesn’t have to be dull and drab, in a creaking rocker. (Conversely, it also is not as energetically portrayed by dozens of generally misleading TV pharmaceutical ads.)

Focusing on the mundane, necessary preparations and maintenance of the older and bolder is simply smart aging. However, there is more to living life NOW. Know your limitations, but more importantly, know your strengths, inner needs, desires, and what puts a smile on your face every … single … day. That’s what makes you Aging With ATT-i-tude!

֎ Celebrating SEPTEMBER 39ers ~ And More!
Fall comes roaring in on the mighty growl of a tiger! I’m tellin’ you, it’s all in the ATT-i-tude … and so we celebrate …

National Save A Tiger Month! In addition to Big Cat Rescue, the World Wildlife Fund offers more ways to learn and contribute to saving these magnificent creatures from the ravages of “progress.” Cat lovers everywhere will especially connect with this month, recognizing the traits and mannerisms of the big cats, in their own little domestic felines. Three very worthwhile links let you explore what your kitty’s oversized cousins need to survive in this greedy, overdeveloped world. Help from us is always appreciated. Get Big Cat Rescue NEWS—explore  and enjoy.

September 39ers also share their UN-birthday month with World Candle Month no matter how many candles are on their cake! Of course, Candles.org is talking about the soothing, decorative candle and their site offers the myths, magic, and safe use of our glowing household staple. Lighting a lovely, scented candle is a great way to pamper yourself, especially during the New Moon. Make a wish …

September 15th: New Moon Musings   Feeling like you need to seek out like-minded people? The New Moon encourages stretching beyond your normal circle. Celebrate SEPTEMBER’S New Beginnings with new acquaintances! It’s also time to make time for yourself. Light a candle and sit quietly to review life in your mind’s eye.

September 15th: After a little New Moon introspection, break out into boisterous memories for National 8-Track Tape Day! The dinosaur of music returns to celebrate muscle cars and music together again, just as it was in your ol’ 1966 Mustang. They were a brief but totally fun upgrade over AM Radio and driving was never the same. No commercials!

September 16th: Longtime surfers know that there is nothing like the peace and tranquility of the ocean to soothe a savage soul. They also know, the only real surfboard is a longboard … come see why at San Diego’s

Classic Longboard Surfing Contest! For a day, Mission Beach is transported back to the truly good ol’ days of sand, surf, and sun … when your board was taller than you and weighed up to twenty pounds! Go ahead, you can dredge up the memories of silly surf movies, we won’t tell. Vintage longboard collectors go here

September 21st: Hmmmm, since you’re thinking beach blanket bongos, bonfires and Limbo sticks, you’re primed for National Dance Day! According to the quite dry official Congress designation, “Expressing support for dance as a form of valuable exercise and of artistic expression, and for the designation of September 21, 2019, as National Dance Day,” you can now dance your heart out—whether it’s a cultural jig or a Rockin’ jive. Bottom line, get movin’!

September 29th: We were treated to some awesome Full Moon Magic this summer, but September’s Harvest Full Moon is no slouch! The farmer-friendly moon hangs out around sunset longer than other moons, shining enough light for harvests to be worked ahead of early frosts. Also known as Autumn Moon (Cree) and Autumn-apt Falling Leaves Moon (Ojibwe), it should prove to be mesmerizing no matter where you are.

September 29th-30th: Vacationing in San Diego? Or a San Diegan looking for a place to find vintage treasures? As the Del Mar Fairgrounds’ website suggests, “Discover farmhouse, handmade, industrial, up-cycled and re-purposed goods from over 130 vendors in 70,000 square feet at The Great Junk Hunt.” Make it a totally fun scavenger hunt! 😊 Need something closer to home wherever you are? Shop in your town

֎ For 39ers who Follow the Stars
The first half of this month,
Virgo 39ers (08/23-09/22) may be frustrated and sluggish. Are you dragging your heels on something? Take heart, about the time you hand September over to Libra, you’ll feel a little lighter. Your innate ability to sort things out will suit you well. Wear your fave earth tones of brown or green … you’ll begin to feel better.

For you, dear Libra 39ers (09/23-10/22), September is shaping up to be a time for refreshing or make new, personal and business commitments. The Harvest Full Moon guides your steps to making valuable choices for your best interests. Listen to your intuition. Surround yourself with light blues and meditate. You’ll figure it out.

The rest of you 39ers who have Virgo and Libra friends, now is the time to show how much they mean to you. It doesn’t need to be extravagant. It’s the little things that count. If you do decide to go big, the stunning sapphire is September’s official birthstone that works for both. There’s always a “however”: by Zodiac sign, Virgo’s is the beautiful blue sapphire and Libra’s is the elegant opal.

֎ Monthly Song of Note
When you’re young, the thought of turning 40+ is abhorrent, if thought of at all. So you would think young people writing a song about young people would be upbeat and glowing. The only thing upbeat about our SEPTEMBER Song of Note is its tempo … the lyrics for “
Show Biz Kids,” are surprisingly cynical and less than complimentary.

Steely Dan wrote and recorded the song, yet the duo, Walter Becker and Donal Fagen, was still in their twenties. Only mildly successful, it’s seen already sliding down the KPOI/Honolulu chart only reaching #11, and not showing at all on three other September ’73 radio surveys across the country. “Show Biz Kids” gave the impression of a happy song, but with unflattering lyrics about young’uns, were they talking about themselves, or what they saw around them? … All that money can buy | They got the shapely bods | They got the Steely Dan T-shirt | And for the coup-de-gras | They're outrageous … (It gets worse.) Sounds like today … MORE tuneful tidbits to manifest your memories of 1973, and keep your young self Rockin’ from 50 Years Ago this Month!
