It’s Summer! Get Up & Boogie, 39ers!
Happy UN-Birthday June 39ers! ♪ And many more… ♪ Well, it’s the 10th and here it is … I do prefer to post a few days earlier, but at my age, I’ll take what energy I can get! There’s loads of fun and info from your usual mini-astrology notes—this month the spotlight is on Gemini and Cancer—to National Zoo and Aquarium Month and even a movie review! You never know what I’ll come up with … so let’s get to it!

June’s 39er St¶rs of the
Sky
For all of us: Though it’s the season for bright-minded Gemini twins and the Zodiac nurturing sign of Cancer, we all can use a few wise words and encouragement. As we travel through June we feel the the might and ebbing of celestial waves. Look beyond the cacophony of new ideas and center on one or two that show useful promise. Seek the strong and secure rather than vulnerable, however promising. They’ll be especially effective after the 19th of the month. If no new ventures fit your needs, review talented ideas from earlier months —are you staying true to them—and yourself?
For our 39er UN-Birthday Gemini (May 21-June 20) friends, you may feel the wrath of tumultuous celestial tides more than the rest of us. June brings a shaky unrest that you can tame if you pay attention and have a little patience. Your brilliant communication skills are evident after the mid-month New Moon, giving everything you do and say, stronger context and powerful outcomes. Leave nothing to chance; guide your ideas confidently through every step of the way. What starts out unsure and unstable will reap surprise benefits toward month’s end.
You, m’dear Cancer 39ers (June 21-July 22nd) are in for a Summer treat and I don’t mean just ice cream! You’ll be looking at your life through rose-colored sunglasses while going busily about upgrading the little things that bring pure pleasure. By mid-month, turn your concentration inward with the New Moon for a peaceful review of your commitments and beliefs. It’ll be a solitary time for a mid-year advancement to polish up important personal plans. By the end of June, It sets you in a grand mood to brighten up … and the fun begins.
♪ June Vintage Song of Note ♪50 Years Ago, we were listening to music of the day, without a thought that our music would eventually become “vintage.” But here we are, so let’s make the most of it! The #1 tune at the top of KHJ/Los Angeles’ June 22, 1976 survey No. 572, was in its 2nd week at #1 and is perfect for us today, 39ers. Let’s “Get Up and Boogie” with Silver Convention!
The Disco dance tune by a glitter-clad trio of German women, urges us to move! Great advice for today’s 39ers, don’t ya think? And like their “something outa nothing” 1975 hit, “Fly, Robin, Fly,” only six words in two phrases, sung over-and-over, made “Boogie” a #1 chart hit. Now that’s taking advantage of a good beat! Somehow, I don’t think that would fly today. June ‘76 also gave us “Afternoon Delight” and “Silly Love Songs” in the Top 10. Take a gander ... at more tuneful vintage trivia to manifest your memories and keep the Rock Rockin’ from 50 Years Ago this Month!
֎ More JUNE Fun for Everyone
Summer
may not be quite as fun and exciting in your elder years, as it once was, but
it offers a sense of freedom from the Winter doldrums and a welcome respite for
those who venture into the great outdoors. Of course, the great outdoors can be
experienced in reality or virtually, your choice. With that in mind, let’s get
the Summer started!
A healthy brain is paramount to enjoying the summer. Take a few minutes to peruse Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month. Ideas and help abound on the sponsor site. If you’ve ever wondered just how to help your brain stay active and relative, this is the place! Wear purple and raise awareness …
This special month designation just begged me to do a movie review! It’s also National Zoo and Aquarium Month! In San Diego, we have a great zoo with several aquariums and terrains for enjoying and learning about various animals of land and sea. But if you don’t have anything nearby, a fun alternative is a terrific animal or ocean mammal movie! And I know just the one for this month …
If you’re interested in
well-done, meaningful but poignant movies without all of today’s sex and
violence, I highly recommend Remarkably Bright Creatures, starring the inimitable Sally Field.
A Netflix original, the cerebral fantasy film about life,
follows Tova (Sally), an elderly night-shift cleaning lady in an
aquarium/sanctuary and—an octopus.
If you simply must read a longer review first, here’s Richard Ebert’s, which doesn’t give away the whole story, just much of it. I suggest not reading reviews at all—not if you want to immerse yourself in the fantasy, which is lots more fun without already knowing The End.
June 11th: Get out! No, really get out on National Get Outdoors Day. During the National Great Outdoors Month … today is “… a nationwide event featuring a mix of practical information and fun, outdoor activities.” If travel and camping isn’t your thing, just take the day to enjoy a walk and truly notice the birds, the trees, and the flowers.
June 12th: And now you have no excuse … it’s National Movie Night! Whether you watch the movie I suggested above, or pull out your stored movies, or head to a streaming site—it’s all about the experience—and don’t forget the popcorn!
June 15th: And while you’re in the great outdoors on the 11th, snap a few pics for Nature Photography Day! As the sponsor link suggests, “ … to promote the enjoyment of nature photography, and to explain how images are used to advance the cause of conservation and protect plants, wildlife, and landscapes both locally and globally.” I love nature photography—my faves are ocean and flora photos. Like this 2022 Pacific Ocean in shades of evening gold. What are yours?June 15th: Another auspicious meaning to the 15th is a day for New Moon Musings. Celebrate June’s New Beginnings with the New Moon to boost a fresh start every month on your projects and plans. Whether personal or professional, a New Moon meditation will point you in the right direction.
June 16th: Hey 39ers, remember June 12th, your movie night? Did you really have popcorn, or did you opt for another popular movie snack appropriate to today’s National Cracker Jack Day? Although the sponsor link is Wikipedia, which gives us great historical info on the snack and its special day, you might want to check out the company that now owns it—Frito-Lay, of course.
June 19th: I don’t know why the sponsor link is non-existent, but I’ll pick up the ball and throw it for Garfield the Cat Day! Well, duh, it should be. This was the day in 1978 that Garfield first appeared in comics by Jim Davis. And, 39ers, on this date in 2018 he turned … 40! I have the vintage coffee cup to prove it. Now on GoComics, check ‘em out for your daily dose of the curmudgeon cat!
June 20th: A Hawaiian
sport-turned-into-a-worldwide-phenomenon, it’s International
Surfing Day! Such an auspicious day couldn’t even be contained with one
sponsor link. The official sponsor is Wikipedia which
offers a basic history, and a secondary
sponsor link to the Wave Shack (UK) for the fun of it across the pond. The
link above goes a little beyond.
If you’ve ever felt the crest of a tall ocean wave, 39ers, you
know the majesty of the ocean, even though you may not be surfing now, depending
on your point of 39 and Holding. At a tad past the exhilaration of it, I
have still never tired of watching the surfers rise and fall with the waves,
especially at dusk into sunset. Grab your fave Hawaiian shirt and head for the
beach.
If you don’t live near an ocean,
there are many ocean-cams
to watch and feel its magic. Gaze at the undulating waves, close your eyes and
see them in your soul. Meditate. Enjoy. No wonder this day is international.
June 21st: How appropriate this year! The official 1st Day of Summer falls on Father’s Day. Many families have a Dad who rules the summer BBQ parties. This year, sit Dad down and let him rest as you do the cooking. Although Mother’s Day came first, Father’s Day is no less important. Score something fun for Dad, here, and enjoy your 1st Day of Summer. 😊
June 25th: For those 39ers who grew up with The Beatles, you’ll appreciate one fan’s fanatic gesture in creating today’s Global Beatles Day. I still don’t understand how Paul McCartney came up with “Yesterday” at such an early age. It was first released as a single in the U.S. the last quarter of 1965. Give it a listen … it’s more appropriate now than ever. ♪ … Now I need a place to hide away | Oh, I believe in yesterday … ♪
June 29th: So is tonight’s Full Strawberry Moon truly red? Yes-and-no … or not exactly … as the Almanac states, “A Moon usually appears reddish when it’s close to the horizon because the light rays must pass through the densest layers of the atmosphere.” As with many Full Moons, it is more likely that its moniker endures, due to some native peoples, who welcomed the season’s blossoms of strawberries and flowers in general.

NUTS & BOLTS: And dear readers, I just want you to know that I try my best to create an informative, aesthetically creative article for you each month. However, Blogger is not a professional hosting site—but they’re free through Google. So we’re stuck with their crummy platform that doesn’t work well to manipulate images with writing, especially if you aren’t a techie who knows HTML. Trust me, I’ve tried for years to write articles without gaps between paragraphs and even between sentences. Sigh. Maybe I’ll win the lottery and be able to afford a professional hosting site someday.
