39ers Aging with ATTitude 😎 June 2026

It’s Summer! Get Up & Boogie, 39ers!

Happy UN-Birthday June 39ers! ♪ And many more… ♪ Well, it’s the 10th and here it is … I do prefer to post a few days earlier, but at my age, I’ll take what energy I can get! There’s loads of fun and info from your usual mini-astrology notes—this month the spotlight is on Gemini and Cancer—to National Zoo and Aquarium Month and even a movie review! You never know what I’ll come up with … so let’s get to it!

֎ We Celebrate 39ers ~ And More!
39 and Holding Club is dedicated to all those intrepid souls who have turned 40 years old … and climbing. By this time, we hopefully know a few things about life, love, and the pursuit of happiness. Not necessarily in that order. So, c’mon along as we embrace Aging with ATTitude and enjoy life because of it … or in spite of it … your choice!

June’s 39er Strs of the Sky

We always begin with a mini-horoscope for us all. No matter our age, a little perceived help never hurts. It’s followed by a few words of encouragement as we UNwrap the month’s UN-Birthday Zodiac signs. Here we go …

For all of us: Though it’s the season for bright-minded Gemini twins and the Zodiac nurturing sign of Cancer, we all can use a few wise words and encouragement. As we travel through June we feel the the might and ebbing of celestial waves. Look beyond the cacophony of new ideas and center on one or two that show useful promise. Seek the strong and secure rather than vulnerable, however promising. They’ll be especially effective after the 19th of the month. If no new ventures fit your needs, review talented ideas from earlier months —are you staying true to them—and yourself?

For our 39er UN-Birthday Gemini (May 21-June 20) friends, you may feel the wrath of tumultuous celestial tides more than the rest of us. June brings a shaky unrest that you can tame if you pay attention and have a little patience. Your brilliant communication skills are evident after the mid-month New Moon, giving everything you do and say, stronger context and powerful outcomes. Leave nothing to chance; guide your ideas confidently through every step of the way. What starts out unsure and unstable will reap surprise benefits toward month’s end.

You, m’dear Cancer 39ers (June 21-July 22nd) are in for a Summer treat and I don’t mean just ice cream! You’ll be looking at your life through rose-colored sunglasses while going busily about upgrading the little things that bring pure pleasure. By mid-month, turn your concentration inward with the New Moon for a peaceful review of your commitments and beliefs. It’ll be a solitary time for a mid-year advancement to polish up important personal plans. By the end of June, It sets you in a grand mood to brighten up … and the fun begins.

June Vintage Song of Note
50 Years Ago, we were listening to music of the day, without a thought that our music would eventually become “vintage.” But here we are, so let’s make the most of it! The #1 tune at the top of KHJ/Los Angeles’ June 22, 1976 survey No. 572, was in its 2nd week at #1 and is perfect for us today, 39ers. Let’s “
Get Up and Boogie” with Silver Convention!
The Disco dance tune by a glitter-clad trio of German women, urges us to move! Great advice for today’s 39ers, don’t ya think? And like their “something outa nothing” 1975 hit, “
Fly, Robin, Fly,” only six words in two phrases, sung over-and-over, made “Boogie” a #1 chart hit. Now that’s taking advantage of a good beat! Somehow, I don’t think that would fly today. June ‘76 also gave us “Afternoon Delight” and “Silly Love Songs” in the Top 10. Take a gander ... at more tuneful vintage trivia to manifest your memories and keep the Rock Rockin’ from 50 Years Ago this Month!

֎ More JUNE Fun for Everyone
Summer may not be quite as fun and exciting in your elder years, as it once was, but it offers a sense of freedom from the Winter doldrums and a welcome respite for those who venture into the great outdoors. Of course, the great outdoors can be experienced in reality or virtually, your choice. With that in mind, let’s get the Summer started!

A healthy brain is paramount to enjoying the summer. Take a few minutes to peruse Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month. Ideas and help abound on the sponsor site. If you’ve ever wondered just how to help your brain stay active and relative, this is the place! Wear purple and raise awareness …

This special month designation just begged me to do a movie review! It’s also National Zoo and Aquarium Month! In San Diego, we have a great zoo with several aquariums and terrains for enjoying and learning about various animals of land and sea. But if you don’t have anything nearby, a fun alternative is a terrific animal or ocean mammal movie! And I know just the one for this month …

If you’re interested in well-done, meaningful but poignant movies without all of today’s sex and violence, I highly recommend Remarkably Bright Creatures, starring the inimitable Sally Field. A Netflix original, the cerebral fantasy film about life, follows Tova (Sally), an elderly night-shift cleaning lady in an aquarium/sanctuary and—an octopus.

I know, I know, I was skeptical at first, too. But the octopus has charisma! LOL The scriptwriters brought Marcellus, the octopus, into our world, and drew us into his fascinating, watery life. Heart-tugging, with a surprise ending. Give this quote from Marcellus some thought as you go about your day: “I likely have more intelligence in a single tentacle than humans have in their entire skull.” If you watch it, let me know what you think about it! Mini-reviews welcome and may be published.
If you simply must read a longer review first, here’s
Richard Ebert’s, which doesn’t give away the whole story, just much of it. I suggest not reading reviews at all—not if you want to immerse yourself in the fantasy, which is lots more fun without already knowing The End.

June 11th: Get out! No, really get out on National Get Outdoors Day. During the National Great Outdoors Month … today is “… a nationwide event featuring a mix of practical information and fun, outdoor activities.” If travel and camping isn’t your thing, just take the day to enjoy a walk and truly notice the birds, the trees, and the flowers.

June 12th: And now you have no excuse … it’s National Movie Night! Whether you watch the movie I suggested above, or pull out your stored movies, or head to a streaming site—it’s all about the experience—and don’t forget the popcorn!

June 15th: And while you’re in the great outdoors on the 11th, snap a few pics for Nature Photography Day! As the sponsor link suggests, “ … to promote the enjoyment of nature photography, and to explain how images are used to advance the cause of conservation and protect plants, wildlife, and landscapes both locally and globally.” I love nature photography—my faves are ocean and flora photos. Like this 2022 Pacific Ocean in shades of evening gold. What are yours?

June 15th: Another auspicious meaning to the 15th is a day for New Moon Musings. Celebrate June’s New Beginnings with the New Moon to boost a fresh start every month on your projects and plans. Whether personal or professional, a New Moon meditation will point you in the right direction.

June 16th: Hey 39ers, remember June 12th, your movie night? Did you really have popcorn, or did you opt for another popular movie snack appropriate to today’s National Cracker Jack Day? Although the sponsor link is Wikipedia, which gives us great historical info on the snack and its special day, you might want to check out the company that now owns it—Frito-Lay, of course.

June 19th: I don’t know why the sponsor link is non-existent, but I’ll pick up the ball and throw it for Garfield the Cat Day! Well, duh, it should be. This was the day in 1978 that Garfield first appeared in comics by Jim Davis. And, 39ers, on this date in 2018 he turned … 40! I have the vintage coffee cup to prove it. Now on GoComics, check ‘em out for your daily dose of the curmudgeon cat!

June 20th: A Hawaiian sport-turned-into-a-worldwide-phenomenon, it’s International Surfing Day! Such an auspicious day couldn’t even be contained with one sponsor link. The official sponsor is Wikipedia which offers a basic history, and a secondary sponsor link to the Wave Shack (UK) for the fun of it across the pond. The link above goes a little beyond.

If you’ve ever felt the crest of a tall ocean wave, 39ers, you know the majesty of the ocean, even though you may not be surfing now, depending on your point of 39 and Holding. At a tad past the exhilaration of it, I have still never tired of watching the surfers rise and fall with the waves, especially at dusk into sunset. Grab your fave Hawaiian shirt and head for the beach.
If you don’t live near an ocean, there are many ocean-cams to watch and feel its magic. Gaze at the undulating waves, close your eyes and see them in your soul. Meditate. Enjoy. No wonder this day is international.

June 21st: How appropriate this year! The official 1st Day of Summer falls on Father’s Day. Many families have a Dad who rules the summer BBQ parties. This year, sit Dad down and let him rest as you do the cooking. Although Mother’s Day came first, Father’s Day is no less important. Score something fun for Dad, here, and enjoy your 1st Day of Summer. 😊

June 25th: For those 39ers who grew up with The Beatles, you’ll appreciate one fan’s fanatic gesture in creating today’s Global Beatles Day. I still don’t understand how Paul McCartney came up with “Yesterday” at such an early age. It was first released as a single in the U.S. the last quarter of 1965. Give it a listen … it’s more appropriate now than ever. Now I need a place to hide away | Oh, I believe in yesterday

June 29th: So is tonight’s Full Strawberry Moon truly red? Yes-and-no … or not exactly … as the Almanac states, “A Moon usually appears reddish when it’s close to the horizon because the light rays must pass through the densest layers of the atmosphere.” As with many Full Moons, it is more likely that its moniker endures, due to some native peoples, who welcomed the season’s blossoms of strawberries and flowers in general.

֎ Aging Tip of the Month
What’s In Your Till, 39ers?
It’s the way of a gray day
to slip-slide slowly through time
My mind wanders in and out
Of moods, wondering why

I haven’t a dime

“It’s ok” the wind whispers
As I meander down the hill
Life well-lived is not in riches
Counted in green and gold,
It is your soul that is in the till

NUTS & BOLTS: And dear readers, I just want you to know that I try my best to create an informative, aesthetically creative article for you each month. However, Blogger is not a professional hosting site—but they’re free through Google. So we’re stuck with their crummy platform that doesn’t work well to manipulate images with writing, especially if you aren’t a techie who knows HTML. Trust me, I’ve tried for years to write articles without gaps between paragraphs and even between sentences. Sigh. Maybe I’ll win the lottery and be able to afford a professional hosting site someday.

39ers Aging with ATTitude June 2025

JUNE! Hot Breezes & Cool Freezes in Long Tall Glasses

Happy UN-Birthday June 39ers!
♪ And many more… ♪ We’re finally heading into a hopefully, mild-heat Summer of balmy breezes and cool drink freezes. Well, one can dream, right? One way or the other, it’s a fresh start to a new season. Let’s make it a good’un!

As I said last month, you can now expect, with confidence, 39AHC will post between the 7 th and 10th of each month. However, I also might surprise you and post a little earlier. Are you sporting shorts and warming up to the outside Summer air yet? You’ll be ready after you take a break from work or chores and read …

֎ Celebrating JUNE 39ers ~ And More!

For 39ers who Follow the Stars

So Gemini 39ers (05/21-06/20), it’s your Summertime birthday! While you’re enjoying the season, however, your dual nature may be struggling with a relationship and it’s likely anything but a breeze. Love may be confusing and frustrating at this time. Find time to sip a respite and ruminate with some soul-searching. This could help you steer your love boat in the right direction, around June 11’s Full Moon. And take heart! Your professional life is in for a boost, which could take you all the way through the year, with the New Moon June 25th, as its catalyst. Go forth and enjoy!

And as you enter your UN-birthday party season, Cancer 39ers (06/21-07/22), think big! Jupiter jazzes you up on June 9th and waves a magic wand over your whole year. No other sign will be quite as empowered as you. Take advantage and review every aspect of your life, as it could nourish all opportunities from business, to personal, to your inner soul. An added shine comes June 17th when Mars and Virgo line up, and a magnificent New Moon (25th) will lead you all the way through the first half of August. You won’t need a tan to glow, just smile.
If you’re a special friend or family of a Gemini or Cancer 39er, you might want to stick around this month for all their excitement … and if needed, offer a helping heart or hand. Looking for gifts? Although each has their own Zodiac birthstone
Gemini’s is the pearl and Cancer’s is the equally opalescent moonstonewhich makes the month of June’s pearl a perfect luminous gift for both.

June 1975 Vintage Song of Note
After a long, hot road trip or an afternoon sweating in the Summer sun, this is the perfect refreshing song! Leo Sayer tells us a story as we sip on something cool in “Long Tall Glasses.”
There was caviar | And long tall glasses | With wine up to y'ar

But don’t grab your vino cocktail with the little umbrella just yet … after May’s dancin’ tune to boost our ATTitude, June’s Song of Note gives us a reason to rest, while we’re still dancin’! Said before you can eat, you gotta dance like Fred Astaire | You know I can't dance, you know I can't dance As we sing along to #18 on WPEZ/Chicago’s hot tunes, let’s get you in the mood with yummy recipes for Summer drinks in … you guessed it … long, tall glasses!
Sayer, an English-Australian singer and songwriter, apparently loves to dance, as another big hit made him 1978’s Grammy Rhythm & Blues winner with, "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing." Like many 39ers, Sayer endured years of ups and downs since, but music is still his first love and he’s currently touring the UK and Australia.
Love the Oldies? Enjoy more tuneful vintage tidbits to manifest your memories and keep the Rock Rockin’ from 50 Years Ago this Month!

֎ More JUNE Fun for Everyone

In Summer, with hot days and balmy nights, we often get a hankerin’ for the great outdoors. Not unusual since it’s National Camping Month! Although glamping is more like it for many of us these days, especially 39ers, after a decade or two of “camping’s dirty li’l’ secret,” glamping has finally made it into the mainstream.

Camper Smarts, the month’s sponsor, is chock full of helpful hints no matter your expertise in camping. Most info pertains to RV travel, but there are plenty of tips, from camp sites to RV recreation parks, and even how to get your kids excited about going. Don’t know where to go? They have that too!

Wednesday ~ June 11th: Has your mouth been watering over fresh strawberries in the store? Of course! Tonight is the Full Strawberry Moon. And yes, ripening strawberries are the origin of its name, as followed by the Algonquin, Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota peoples, among others. Of course, at times, is likely looks somewhat like a strawberry, with reddish hues, as it’s also the lowest Full Moon of the year, hanging on the horizon with variegating lunar blushes.
This Sagittarius moon brings energy for new understanding and eagerness for adventure. Optimistic and reflective, feel the inspiration that will linger all month, with solidarity in your actions heightened by June 17th. Do you work with crystals? An amethyst close by will enhance the ambiance.

Wednesday ~ June 11th: This day is also special for San Diego, California, and all of SoCal—it’s Opening Day at the Fair! If your Inner Child gets all atwitter for the outrageousness of crazy Fair Food, enjoys the good-time games, rides, and even the pig races, you have a full month to enjoy. This year’s theme is all about your best friend—PET!  Their “Summer Pet-acular” doesn’t close until July 6th, but don’t wait—you’ll miss something! Seniors & kids discounts, and no, your pet is not allowed to attend, although you’ll find loads of new stuff to take home to them.

Friday ~ June 13th:  Fortuitously, this year’s National Movie Night as designated by the sponsor link, falls on Friday the 13th---giving it a whole new perspective! While the sponsor focuses on movies with the kids, tonight’s movies stoke your spooky Inner Child and is a great time to prep for Halloween. Combine your (39ers) movie night fun with the weekend to view all the Friday the 13th movies! They’re not all found in the same place, but this link tells you where they might be available. There are a dozen of ‘em, beginning with the first one released in 1980. So start early and scare yourself all through the night …

Saturday ~ June 14th: Today, as it has been since 1916, is Flag Day. I am, by nature and upbringing, a patriotic person. I hope you are too, and you’ve not lost your love for our great country, however confused it may be at this time. The United States Flag is a symbol of our prized Independence. Collectively, our Independence is vital. Singly, it’s a little tricker, but still possible in this country. The poster image here, made it official June 14, 1917, celebrating 140 years since the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. It has now been 248 years. I pledge allegiance to the flag …

Sunday ~ June 15th: Today is a double-duty day … Father’s Day, of course, and Nature Photography Day. The former has no official sponsor, so I linked it to a fun Farmer’s Almanac page of the day. The latter, is attuned to the great outdoors and a pricy organization to hook up with. However, I have a great idea … think of Father’s Day as an opportunity for great photos of his nature!
How does he relate to nature? Well, some dads are a dynamic force of nature; some are nature’s quiet, sustaining types, and others are like an effervescent evergreen. Whichever is your father, capture him in his native habitat for the best Nature Photography/Father’s Day photo! If your dad, like my solid rock of a father, is no longer here to comfort and advise, bring out the old photos and enjoy.

Tuesday ~ June 17th:  You’re never going to guess what today is … go ahead, guess, I’ll wait! … hmmm … give up? Time to celebrate National Garbage Man Day! Stop laughing … seriously, it’s a special day! And I don’t know about you, but I don’t need a morning alarm since I’m living in the city now. Every morning at 5:45a.m. my senses are heartily awakened when I hear the forceful backup-beeper of the city trash truck … grumble, grumble … however, I have every respect for the hearty people who haul our trash away. They provide a great service—I shudder to think about what our homes and neighborhoods would look like without them! We likely don’t thank them enough—or ever—now is a good time to start.

Thursday ~ June 19th: “So, you’re now 40.” Reply, “Yes, I am.” Pause. “You look good …” Reply, “Aging well is the best revenge,” said Garfield* … And today is Garfield the Cat Day! I can’t believe this day has been abandoned by its sponsor, but never fear, 39AHC is here! Garfield certainly personifies the 39er aging with ATTitude and has always been one of my favorite comic strip characters; when he appeared in a strip about turning 40 (*06/21/18), I was endeared to him forever! He has followed his own advice since creator, Jim Davis, debuted him, June 19, 1978. Raise your cuppa something to Garfield and enjoy your day with the comics.

Friday ~ June 20th: It’s finally here! The First (official) Day of Summer has arrived. What will you do with the longest day of the year? Are you ready, sunscreen in hand and straw hat on head? Many tunes and tales have centered around Summer, but none so much fun and expressive than Nat King Cole’s 1963 version of “Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days of Summer those days of soda, and pretzels and beer Make it a good’un, 39ers!

Saturday ~ June 21st: As a SoCal resident for many years, today’s International Surfing Day resonates with my Inner Child who loves the ocean and all activities it holds for us playful humans. Many moons ago, when my boys were young, surfing, sun, and sand were ingrained in our daily lives—especially the sand! Today, we’re in a fight to save our oceans, even as we gaze out over their marvelous, soul-soothing expanse. Please visit the links and do what you can to help—even if not near an ocean, their mere presence silently enriches all of our lives.

Monday ~ June 23rd: Tippety-type … I thought about this day as my fingers mindlessly reached for the letters on my keyboard. It’s Typing Dayand sadly, yet another abandoned special day. Did you learn how to type in school as I did, or has that too, fallen by the wayside? (BTW, at the end of the semester, I was typing 80-90 words per minute.) Although phones are not conducive to typing, we still have computer keyboards following the same typing format as the ol’ clackety-clack typewriters. The link provided is for your vintage typewriter and writing pleasure. Typewriters Anonymous brings back the nostalgia of the keyboard’s ancestor, combined with poetry and style. Vintage typewriters today, are a popular collectible as they again, spark curiosity in their history.

Wednesday ~ June 25th: Celebrate June sliding into July with New Beginnings from your New Moon Musings! This month’s New Moon is a lunation of extraordinary influence. What have you left undone this month … or the first half of the year … and what inspires you to finish the year with flair? The New Moon offers a boost and fresh start every month. Today, don’t just look for luck—make your luck happen. Meditate … walk … sit in silence … let your mind float with soft music. Whatever works for you to feel refreshed.
