JUNE! Hot Breezes & Cool Freezes in Long Tall Glasses

Happy UN-Birthday June 39ers!

֎ Celebrating JUNE 39ers ~ And More!

For 39ers who Follow the Stars

So Gemini 39ers (05/21-06/20), it’s your Summertime birthday! While you’re enjoying the season, however, your dual nature may be struggling with a relationship and it’s likely anything but a breeze. Love may be confusing and frustrating at this time. Find time to sip a respite and ruminate with some soul-searching. This could help you steer your love boat in the right direction, around June 11’s Full Moon. And take heart! Your professional life is in for a boost, which could take you all the way through the year, with the New Moon June 25th, as its catalyst. Go forth and enjoy!

And as you enter your UN-birthday party season, Cancer 39ers (06/21-07/22), think big! Jupiter jazzes you up on June 9th and waves a magic wand over your whole year. No other sign will be quite as empowered as you. Take advantage and review every aspect of your life, as it could nourish all opportunities from business, to personal, to your inner soul. An added shine comes June 17th when Mars and Virgo line up, and a magnificent New Moon (25th) will lead you all the way through the first half of August. You won’t need a tan to glow, just smile.
If you’re a special friend or family of a Gemini or Cancer 39er, you might want to stick around this month for all their excitement … and if needed, offer a helping heart or hand. Looking for gifts? Although each has their own Zodiac birthstone
Gemini’s is the pearl and Cancer’s is the equally opalescent moonstonewhich makes the month of June’s pearl a perfect luminous gift for both.

June 1975 Vintage Song of Note
After a long, hot road trip or an afternoon sweating in the Summer sun, this is the perfect refreshing song! Leo Sayer tells us a story as we sip on something cool in “Long Tall Glasses.”
There was caviar | And long tall glasses | With wine up to y'ar

But don’t grab your vino cocktail with the little umbrella just yet … after May’s dancin’ tune to boost our ATTitude, June’s Song of Note gives us a reason to rest, while we’re still dancin’! Said before you can eat, you gotta dance like Fred Astaire | You know I can't dance, you know I can't dance As we sing along to #18 on WPEZ/Chicago’s hot tunes, let’s get you in the mood with yummy recipes for Summer drinks in … you guessed it … long, tall glasses!
Sayer, an English-Australian singer and songwriter, apparently loves to dance, as another big hit made him 1978’s Grammy Rhythm & Blues winner with, "You Make Me Feel Like Dancing." Like many 39ers, Sayer endured years of ups and downs since, but music is still his first love and he’s currently touring the UK and Australia.

In Summer, with hot days and balmy nights, we often get a hankerin’ for the great outdoors. Not unusual since it’s National Camping Month! Although glamping is more like it for many of us these days, especially 39ers, after a decade or two of “camping’s dirty li’l’ secret,” glamping has finally made it into the mainstream.

Camper Smarts, the month’s sponsor, is chock full of helpful hints no matter your expertise in camping. Most info pertains to RV travel, but there are plenty of tips, from camp sites to RV recreation parks, and even how to get your kids excited about going. Don’t know where to go? They have that too!

Wednesday ~ June 11th: Has your mouth been watering over fresh strawberries in the store? Of course! Tonight is the Full Strawberry Moon. And yes, ripening strawberries are the origin of its name, as followed by the Algonquin, Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota peoples, among others. Of course, at times, is likely looks somewhat like a strawberry, with reddish hues, as it’s also the lowest Full Moon of the year, hanging on the horizon with variegating lunar blushes.
This Sagittarius moon brings energy for new understanding and eagerness for adventure. Optimistic and reflective, feel the inspiration that will linger all month, with solidarity in your actions heightened by June 17th. Do you work with crystals? An amethyst close by will enhance the ambiance.

Wednesday ~ June 11th: This day is also special for San Diego, California, and all of SoCal—it’s Opening Day at the Fair! If your Inner Child gets all atwitter for the outrageousness of crazy Fair Food, enjoys the good-time games, rides, and even the pig races, you have a full month to enjoy. This year’s theme is all about your best friend—PET!  Their “Summer Pet-acular” doesn’t close until July 6th, but don’t wait—you’ll miss something! Seniors & kids discounts, and no, your pet is not allowed to attend, although you’ll find loads of new stuff to take home to them.

Friday ~ June 13th:  Fortuitously, this year’s National Movie Night as designated by the sponsor link, falls on Friday the 13th---giving it a whole new perspective! While the sponsor focuses on movies with the kids, tonight’s movies stoke your spooky Inner Child and is a great time to prep for Halloween. Combine your (39ers) movie night fun with the weekend to view all the Friday the 13th movies! They’re not all found in the same place, but this link tells you where they might be available. There are a dozen of ‘em, beginning with the first one released in 1980. So start early and scare yourself all through the night …

Saturday ~ June 14th: Today, as it has been since 1916, is Flag Day. I am, by nature and upbringing, a patriotic person. I hope you are too, and you’ve not lost your love for our great country, however confused it may be at this time. The United States Flag is a symbol of our prized Independence. Collectively, our Independence is vital. Singly, it’s a little tricker, but still possible in this country. The poster image here, made it official June 14, 1917, celebrating 140 years since the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. It has now been 248 years. I pledge allegiance to the flag …

Sunday ~ June 15th: Today is a double-duty day … Father’s Day, of course, and Nature Photography Day. The former has no official sponsor, so I linked it to a fun Farmer’s Almanac page of the day. The latter, is attuned to the great outdoors and a pricy organization to hook up with. However, I have a great idea … think of Father’s Day as an opportunity for great photos of his nature!
How does he relate to nature? Well, some dads are a dynamic force of nature; some are nature’s quiet, sustaining types, and others are like an effervescent evergreen. Whichever is your father, capture him in his native habitat for the best Nature Photography/Father’s Day photo! If your dad, like my solid rock of a father, is no longer here to comfort and advise, bring out the old photos and enjoy.

Tuesday ~ June 17th:  You’re never going to guess what today is … go ahead, guess, I’ll wait! … hmmm … give up? Time to celebrate National Garbage Man Day! Stop laughing … seriously, it’s a special day! And I don’t know about you, but I don’t need a morning alarm since I’m living in the city now. Every morning at 5:45a.m. my senses are heartily awakened when I hear the forceful backup-beeper of the city trash truck … grumble, grumble … however, I have every respect for the hearty people who haul our trash away. They provide a great service—I shudder to think about what our homes and neighborhoods would look like without them! We likely don’t thank them enough—or ever—now is a good time to start.

Thursday ~ June 19th: “So, you’re now 40.” Reply, “Yes, I am.” Pause. “You look good …” Reply, “Aging well is the best revenge,” said Garfield* … And today is Garfield the Cat Day! I can’t believe this day has been abandoned by its sponsor, but never fear, 39AHC is here! Garfield certainly personifies the 39er aging with ATTitude and has always been one of my favorite comic strip characters; when he appeared in a strip about turning 40 (*06/21/18), I was endeared to him forever! He has followed his own advice since creator, Jim Davis, debuted him, June 19, 1978. Raise your cuppa something to Garfield and enjoy your day with the comics.

Friday ~ June 20th: It’s finally here! The First (official) Day of Summer has arrived. What will you do with the longest day of the year? Are you ready, sunscreen in hand and straw hat on head? Many tunes and tales have centered around Summer, but none so much fun and expressive than Nat King Cole’s 1963 version of “Those Lazy-Hazy-Crazy Days of Summer those days of soda, and pretzels and beer Make it a good’un, 39ers!

Saturday ~ June 21st: As a SoCal resident for many years, today’s International Surfing Day resonates with my Inner Child who loves the ocean and all activities it holds for us playful humans. Many moons ago, when my boys were young, surfing, sun, and sand were ingrained in our daily lives—especially the sand! Today, we’re in a fight to save our oceans, even as we gaze out over their marvelous, soul-soothing expanse. Please visit the links and do what you can to help—even if not near an ocean, their mere presence silently enriches all of our lives.

Monday ~ June 23rd: Tippety-type … I thought about this day as my fingers mindlessly reached for the letters on my keyboard. It’s Typing Dayand sadly, yet another abandoned special day. Did you learn how to type in school as I did, or has that too, fallen by the wayside? (BTW, at the end of the semester, I was typing 80-90 words per minute.) Although phones are not conducive to typing, we still have computer keyboards following the same typing format as the ol’ clackety-clack typewriters. The link provided is for your vintage typewriter and writing pleasure. Typewriters Anonymous brings back the nostalgia of the keyboard’s ancestor, combined with poetry and style. Vintage typewriters today, are a popular collectible as they again, spark curiosity in their history.

Wednesday ~ June 25th: Celebrate June sliding into July with New Beginnings from your New Moon Musings! This month’s New Moon is a lunation of extraordinary influence. What have you left undone this month … or the first half of the year … and what inspires you to finish the year with flair? The New Moon offers a boost and fresh start every month. Today, don’t just look for luck—make your luck happen. Meditate … walk … sit in silence … let your mind float with soft music. Whatever works for you to feel refreshed.

39ers Aging with ATTitude May 2025

Groove to a New ATT-i-tude & Dance!

Happy UN-Birthday MAY 39ers! ♪ And many more… ♪ Does dancing inspire a new groovy spring in your step? Music changes our mood and our ‘tudes. May I have this dance?

While we’re dancing, let me impart my own new ATT-i-tude about the due date of these monthly articles. Obviously, I’m not making the 1st of the month a 39AHC priority. Sadly, since I’m just one old person trying to share my wit, wisdom and memories on two different sites, I must give higher priority to Blast from Your Past articles. I simply don’t have the wherewithal to finish them both by the first of every month. So, all that said, you can now expect, with confidence, 39AHC will post between the 7 th and 10th of each month. (Of course, that’s barring any unforeseen circumstances.) Now, let’s party on!

֎ Celebrating MAY 39ers ~ And More!

May is shaping up to lift your mood and update your ATT-i-tude … I have a perfectly apt Song of Note for you, along with Personal History Month and even World Lindy Hop Day! I promise, it was worth the wait …

First up … let’s celebrate the stars of May!

For 39ers who Follow the Stars
As we emerge from Winter and stretch our bodies in Spring’s (hopefully) milder climate, we also need to wake up our inner selves to embrace a vibrant Summer.

Taurus, if you’ve been sliding through the first half of the year, it’s time to shake out the cobwebs and focus on second-half progress toward stabilizing home and hearth. Mid-month may grant you the power to express yourself easily but still require effort to make it meaningful to someone else. This may result in the need to reassess your business and personal relationships. Does one need special attention to see its value, and require restructuring before deciding to end it? Be assertive but gentle.

Are you a Gemini, usually full of twin-energy? May’s Full Moon (12th) may find you looking for a vital shift to soothe your sagging soul. If you’ve peaked out on a profession or relationship, consider your alternatives. No need to be in a hurry, as you draw on the moon’s energy for the next month, but making decisions will help you lift your soul out of the doldrums. You might also want to help a friend who also needs some encouragement. Keep the faith that all will work to your ultimate advantage.

MAY Vintage Song of Note

As you prob’ly know, we’re all about ATT-i-tude at 39 and Holding Club. So it should come as no surprise that when I saw this Carly Simon song on the KOLA/San Bernardino, California, May 24, 1975, chart list, I had to feature it: take “Attitude Dancing” to heart as our May vintage Song of Note! It obviously struck a cord with radio listeners then, too, as it leaped from #36 to #23 in just one week. Find the groove in a new attitude | Attitude dancing
       And even ol’ “Daddy Longlegs,”
Fred Astaire (1899-1987), titled one of his last albums on it (Summer 1975), and included his version in the tracklist. Check out ... more tuneful vintage tidbits to manifest your memories and keep the Rock Rockin’ from 50 Years Ago this Month!

֎ More MAY Fun for Everyone

Need another reason to celebrate your 39er UN-Birthday? Late Spring and Summer is crowded with fun special days to use as a theme for your Un-Birthday, or simply focus on it, with 39er ATT-i-tude. I’ve expanded on a few listed below, with comments and links in 39er style, while others are listed with links for you to explore on your own. Enjoy …

Up first, a few specialty thoughts to spruce up your whole month: It’s Better Sleep Month and the folks sponsoring it have “… the latest in sleep research to put you on the path to good sleep! Plenty of tips to learn why you may not be sleeping well and getting enough rest, and how to remedy it.” More food for sleep thought …
Of course, we know—especially by the time we’re 39ers—that sleep can positively or negatively impact our daily lives. However, it’s disturbing when I see headlines like this:
Some schools are teaching teens how to sleep.” Schools are cutting sports and the arts to focus on something kids should be learning at home.
Sure, provide information to kids for tools they need and where to locate them—schools are not it. Our children need to get back to basic Reading, Writing, and (grammatically incorrect) ‘Rithmetic. (Yeah, it was pretty dumb.) Not getting enough sleep is a school counselor or community awareness organizations’ responsibility, don’t you think? Besides, teens today are not entirely stupid—they know enough to search “how to sleep better” on Google. Phew! That’s a lot of thinking … time for a nap.

A few more May thoughts … it’s Personal History Month … though the sponsor link is a good one, you may also want to visit our link that reminds you how important it is to leave a “Living Legacy.” Everyone has a story to tell … don’t leave yours in the dust of time without a voice.

May is naturally, Military Appreciation Month. Don’t wait until Memorial Day to pay respects, or focus only on those who lost their lives protecting us. Reach out today and ask how you can participate as a civilian.

May 11th: Pretty difficult to forget Mother's Day isn’t it? Not only are ads blasting from every broadcast media, but chocolate and flowers are on sale! Of course, Moms are special and those who truly devoted themselves to caring for their children, deserve only our best today (and really, every day) … though, for most Moms it isn’t what you can buy them, it’s the bearhug or long-distance phone call that matters most. And for those whose mothers have joined the club of eternal maternal spirits, raise your eyes skyward and say a special prayer. Thanks, Mom.

May 12th: It’s time to blossom with the Full Flower Moon! Do you feel a special kinship with the full moon? May meditation is especially potent to work with your personal Full Moon Magic. It’s called the Flower Moon for a reason—perfect time to flourish and burst into summer with great energy and splendor. Its power is effective three days before—most powerful at its zenith—and up to three days after. Aptly named by the Algonquin and Ojibwe peoples, the Flower Moon shares its name with a Cree designation of Budding Moon, as it awakens life on Earth. Meditate and bloom with our Full Flower Moon.

May 12th-18th: Guess what?! It’s officially the start of Beer Season! At least so says the sponsor of American Craft Beer Week. Those of us at a “certain age” have (hopefully), learned to “enjoy” (being the key word) our alcohol without overdoing it. And visiting craft beer brewpubs or taprooms is a fun way to do just that.* If you make a great, tasty new discovery, take it home and combine it with a potluck party and friends. It’s a winner! (*They have a great nationwide map of locations!)

May 15th: Ok ya’ll, it’s time to stop wearing your felt hats and honor Straw Hat Day! Stop laughing! It’s a serious day! Or at least, it was, and sometimes I miss how our once-beloved traditions have skulked into oblivion. However, thanks to Wiki, who sponsors it, we can read how fun and sincere traditions once were. This day is mostly due to the antiquated “boater” style hat that evolved from traditional straw hats worn by the city of Venice gondoliers. Hence the name and evolution for men worldwide in late 19th and early 20th centuries.

You’ll likely enjoy Wiki’s historical info on the Straw Hat, however, methinks it’s time to stretch the celebration to include all summer hats of straw, for all genders. Straw hats help reflect the hot and damaging summer sun, yet they’re lightweight and stylish in every generation. Wear yours proudly today and throughout the summer!

May 20th-25th: Feeling stubborn? Could be you’re sensing the character of Mule Days! Yup. We’re havin’ fun now! It’s a huge celebration in Bishop, California, but even if you don’t live near enough to join in, you can enjoy their enthusiasm for this unique celebration. It’s been “An Eastern Sierra Tradition Since 1970.”

May 26th: Put on your dancin’ shoes, and bounce your way through World Lindy Hop Day. So, since I share the name (tho different spelling) and my mother was a dance instructor—yes, I appeared on stage at three years old—I kinda gotta feature this day, even without a sponsoring link. But you know me … I’ll always find a link that will work. The one above proves it’s a viable, historical dance, celebrated with master annual competitions. And if you don’t know what the Lindy Hop is, you haven’t been watching Dancing with the Stars have you? It’s one of their go-to swing dances that is so energetic, it’d kill me if I tried it now! LOL

May 26th: Of course, it’s also this year’s (observed) Memorial Day. Many of us have military relatives and/or ancestors who perished in order to keep our country safe. There is no “official” sponsor, but a history link is included above to remind you or let you learn anew, why this day of observance is so important. They also recommend, “Instead of saying ‘Happy Memorial Day,’ the Code of Support Foundation offers an alternative phrase: ‘I wish you a meaningful Memorial Day.’” Make it a day with family and friends, to pay tribute to our military. It doesn’t take a hero to order men into battle. It takes a hero to be one of those men who goes into battle. ~ Norman Schwarzkopf

May 27th: Break time! Yep, just in time to lead us into a new Summer, the New Moon pops up to offer a seasonal change of New Moon Musings. Always signaling an opportunity to refresh, this month’s New Moon is especially comforting as it brings innovative insights to nagging issues. What have you let lay around all Spring without making a decision? Give it a fresh perspective and follow through. Wouldn’t you rather enjoy your summer than worry over it?

May 27th: Looking for a reason to show off your awesome new “cheap sunglasses” or a great summer outfit? Today is Joe Cool Day! If you don’t know who or what Joe Cool is, I’m sorry. You’ve been living in a vacuum. Click the link and enjoy a few laughs. Thanks to Snoopy creator, Charles Schulz (1922-2000), Joe Cool personifies that suave, enigmatic individual everyone wants to be … whether they actually achieve it or not …

May 31st: Quit your squawking! Yes, it’s World Parrot Day, but you don’t need to be so loud about it. And no, we’re not talking about Parrotheads (overzealous Jimmy Buffett fans). You can learn about their species on the sponsor link, and have some fun with your kids, grandkids, or simply yourself, with these pretty parrot crafts! Enjoy the last day of the month with a smile.

And dear readers, I just want you to know that I try my best to create an informative, aesthetically creative article for you each month. However, Blogger is not a professional hosting site—but they’re free through Google.
